ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Recent years have witnessed a cascading downturn in the world economy resulting in tremendous decline in business and employment globally, particularly in the developed world. Fortunately, India has remained largely unaffected by this recession, staying virtually at the same level as some of the most developed countries. This feat of survival from recession brings to the fore the inherent strengths in the Indian economy that enabled it to face one of the worst economic crises of the recent times. In fact, while the developed world was mauled by the meltdown of their economies, Indian economy only slowed down in maintaining its growth trajectory. It suggests that the Indian economy has a sound fundamental strength, which if leveraged properly can give it a lead over others.

In the "Emerging Issues in Economy, Trade, Commerce and Management Challenges and Strategies for International Competitiveness" the "Bottom of the Pyramid" the sheer size is considered to be the biggest potential market opportunity. The very poor represent value-conscious consumers. Chinese, Indian, Brazilian, Mexican, Russian, Indonesian, Turkey, South African and Thai, all together in one set, have more purchasing power in comparison with the set that consists of Japanese, German, Italian, French and British. If the "Bottom of the Pyramid" is looked at in a combined set, not each and every element in isolation, then considerable amount of the purchasing power can be found. What required is proper innovation. Innovative ideas in all respects, ranging from the creation of utility to the delivery of all those utilities, can materialize the renovation of goods and services into money.

About India

India is the second most populous country in the world, its largest democracy and home to vast diversity in geography, climate, culture, language and ethnicity. Its civilization predates that of Europe. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;[d] China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Burma and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia. The Indian economy is the world's tenth-largest by nominal GDP and third-largest by purchasing power parity (PPP).[14] Following market-based economic reforms in 1991, India became one of the fastest-growing major economies; it is considered a newly industrialized country.

The geography of India is one of huge contrasts. It's the seventh largest country in the world and sits on the Indo-Australian tectonic plate, between the tropics of Cancer and North of the Equator.

At its highest, the peak of K2 in the Himalayas, it's 8611 meters tall. From bottom to top it's almost 2000 miles, around 1900 miles wide and covers an area of 1,269,219 square miles. It's bounded by 4671 miles of coastline, to the South west, by the Arabian Sea, to the South-east by the Bay of Bengal and to the South, the Indian Ocean. In the North it borders China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan along 9445 miles of land frontier.

India has one of the most diverse, mixed and complicated populations in the world claiming almost 2000 social and religious groups, 18 registered national and regional languages and at an approximate guess, a population set to overtake China within three generations at nearly one Billion 350 Million inhabitants and growing fast!

India's territories stretch all the way over to the Andaman Islands about 780 miles away in the Bay of Bengal and to the West, the Lakshadweep Islands lay nearly 200 miles of the coast of Kerala in Arabian sea.

Asia is a continent going through some amazing changes at the moment with some even bigger ones to come. India is a land of incredible diversity in every aspect but it's also one of the most crowded, over-populated and impoverished countries in the world and as its population soars and begins to overtake China's, it's going to be interesting to see what happens.
