Model Smart Grids Regulations
The 3 month certificate course on smart grids aim to supplement technical and managerial skills by providing updated knowledge in smart grid domains through conceptual knowledge and experiential learning.
Participants will be imparted with skills and knowledge to better appreciate/understand smart grid related issues, leading to better business decisions. It will also help them keep abreast of contemporary issues affecting different business activities and the way other countries are tackling them.
Introduction
Government of India has recently approved the National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM), which is going to launch a new set of smart grid projects all across the country. Main focus of the next round of smart grid projects would be toleverage the assets created under R-APDRP to transform the distribution utilities to Smarter Grids with low incremental costs. For successful implementation of other programs that the GoI has recently launched, such as Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), new RE Program for 175 GW by 2022, 100 Smart Cities, Electric Mobility Mission with a target of 6-7 million EVs by 2022 etc, utilities need to adopt Smart Grid technologies at a faster pace. However, the technology is just one piece of the puzzle. Success of Smart Grid squarely depends on smart and knowledgeable professionals who will implement and operate the new systems.
The industry and utility heads have raised concerns about the dearth of trained people and knowledge gap among the workforce in the fast changing technology domains. Learning from experiences of RAPDRP projects in all states that badly suffered mainly due to lack of skilled manpower is an example. Foreseeing such scenario and to avoid this situation, it is important to create a talent pool in India to implement the new programs successfully on track.
India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) is a public private partnership of the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India with the mandate of accelerating smart grid deployments across the country. ISGF has clear focus on changing the way we deliver electricity in our country. ISGF has been engaged in capacity building workshops on various aspects of Smart Grid in the recent past.
The Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) in Pune is one of the oldest institutes in the country with a legacy of more than 125 years of academic excellence. The institute is well known for its diploma, degree, and post graduate level programs in Engineering & Technology. With its aim of achieving greater visibility through focus on research, innovations, and technology incubation, the institute provides rich knowledge on several ground breaking research areas.
ISGF along with VJTI is pleased to announce the First Batch of ISGF-VJTI Joint Certificate Course on Smart Grids (CCSG) for 3 months, a stfull time course starting from 21 September 2015. This course has been developed as a unique and first-of-a-kind program on Smart
Grids that will prepare utility engineers, industry executives and fresh graduates to understand the nuances of smart grid technologies, architectures, standards, business models and implementation experiences of past projects. This 3 months program will not only cover the foundations of the Smart Grids but also add a practical flavour by deep diving into the details of core challenges that need to be addressed on various dimensions of it including field visits.
