INTRODUCTION INTRODUCCIÓNEl distrito de Barranco ha cumplido 134º años de creación política, en tal sentido la Municipalidad ha realizado un trabajo de iluminación de los principales monumentos históricos con el fin de incentivar el desarrollo turístico y cultural.

The district of Barranco has turned 134º years of political creation, in such sense the municipality has carried out a work of illumination of the main historical monuments with the purpose to stimulate the tourist and cultural development.

Este hermoso y tradicional parque barranquino fue inaugurado el 13 de febrero de 1898. Destaca la estatua conocida como la Danaide, existe también el candelabro Barberini y unos angelitos llamados “Puttis” todos trabajados en mármol de Carrara. También hay una pérgola donde se presentan orquestas y artistas que animan las actividades culturales.

PARQUEMUNICIPALThis beautiful and traditional barranquino park was inaugurated on February 13, 1898. It emphasizes the statue known as “The Danaide”, exists also the chandelier Barberini and little angels called “Puttis” all made of marble Carrara’s. There’s also a pergola where orchestras and artists encourage cultural activities.

MUNICIPALPARK

Fue inaugurada el 1 de octubre de 1922 durante el periodo del alcalde Don Enrique de las Casas (1920-1927), lugar donde funcionó por muchos años la Municipalidad. El inmueble de estilo neoclásico es de adobe, presenta pórticos clásicos de columnas entre paños laterales cerrados con pilastras y amplias ventanas laterales, encima del pórtico apreciamos una torre sobre la misma existe un reloj y en su parte baja el escudo de Barranco. Actualmente recibe el nombre de “Manuel Beingolea”. Ofrece servicios al público en general.

Inaugurated on October 1st of the year 1922, placed where the City hall used to work many years. The building of neoclassic style is of adobe, it presents classic porticoes of columns between lateral cloths closed with pilasters and wide wing windows, upon the portico we can appreciate a tower, and on the top of it a clock and on its lower part the shield of Barranco. Nowadays it receives the name of “Manuel Beingolea” offering services to the public in general.

En 1941, siendo alcalde don Manuel Montero Bernales (1940-1947) considera la necesidad de construir un nuevo templo, debido a que el antiguo templo de la Ermita quedo muy deteriorado luego del terremoto de 1940. El gestor de la obra fue el arquitecto Humberto Guerra, colocando a primera piedra el 14 de febrero de 1944. Es así que, el 1 de junio de 1963 en solemne ceremonia, fue inaugurado el Templo siendo bendecido por el Cardenal Juan Landázuri Ricketts. Cuenta con una nave central y dos laterales, con puerta de salida al Parque Municipal, planta en forma de cruz latina, y techo abovedado, la fachada destaca por su estilo Neoclásico.

IGLESIASANTÍSIMACRUZDEBARRANCOIn 1941, being a mayor Mr. Manuel Montero Bernales (1940-1947), considered the need to construct a new temple, because of that the former temple of the Hermitage remained very spoilt after the earthquake of 1940. The manager of the work was the architect Humberto Guerra, putting the first stone on February 14th in 1944, like this on June 1st in 1963, in solemn ceremony, the Temple was inaugurated being blessed by the Cardinal Juan Landázuri Ricketts. It possesses a central ship and two wings, door of exit to the Municipal Park, plant in the shape of Latin cross, and domed roof, the front stands up for its neoclassic style.

Se inaugura en diciembre de 1966 siendo Presidente de la República Don Fernando Belaunde Terry y Alcalde de Barranco Arq. Jorge Rocha Arnao (1964-1966), su construcción moderna contrasta con el ambiente tradicional del entorno. Es por ello que la actual gestión del burgomaestre Antonio Mezarina ha iniciado su remodelación con un nuevo balcón de estilo republicano tallado en madera.

LAMUNICIPALIDADDEBARRANCOIt was inaugurated on December in 1966 being the president of the republic Fernando Belaunde Terry and the mayor of Barranco the architect Jorge Rocha Arnao (1964-1966), his modern construction is acoording with the neigborhood. It is for that reason that the present management of the mayor Antonio Mezarina has initiated it´s remodeling with a new republican style carved wood balcony.

BARRANCOCITYHALL

Antiguamente esta zona correspondía a una quebrada formada por la erosión de las aguas soltadas desde una pila de agua cerca al Parque Municipal. En los acantilados de la Bajada se fueron construyendo, desde principios del siglo XX, hermosos ranchos que se conservan hasta la actualidad.

Formerly this zone was corresponding to a gully formed by the erosion of the waters given up from a water battery nearby to the Municipal Park. In the cliffs of the Descent they were constructing, from beginning of the 20th century beautiful messes that remain nowadays.

BAJADADELOSBAÑOSDESCENTOFTHEBATHS

Antiguamente esta Iglesia era una pequeña capilla a la cual acudían humildes pescadores y viajeros, que haciendo un alto a sus labores solicitaban la intermediación a Dios. Fue erigida en adobe y quincha a mediados del siglo XVIII gracias al benefactor Caicedo, un panadero cuya esposa devota sana milagrosamente por la intercesión de la cruz que aquí se venera. Reedificada por el capellán Manuel de la Fuente Chávez en 1882 luego de que fuera incendiada por el ejercito chileno. En 1903 se eleva a la categoría de parroquia.

Formerly this Church was a small chapel to which humble fishermen and travellers went, who taking a break to their workings asked for the God intermediation. It was erected in adobe and quincha in the middle of century XVIII thanks to the Caicedo benefactor, a baker whose devotee wife, miraculously heals by the intercession of the cross that is venerated here. Rebuilt by the chaplain Manuel de la Fuente Chávez in 1882 after it was set on fire by the Chilean army. In 1903 rises to the category of parish.

Construido en el año 1876, por la necesidad de unir los extremos y permitir el paso entre las calles Ayacucho y la Ermita. Fue testigo de la destrucción de Barranco por el ejército Chileno durante la Guerra del Pacífico el 14 de Enero de 1881.El nombre del Puente de los Suspiros deriva de los innumerables romances que tuvieron y tienen como marco este pintoresco rincón barranquino. La tradición señala que quien por primera vez vea el puente y lo cruza sin respirar se le cumplirá el deseo que pida. Así mismo sirvió de inspiración a una famosa canción de la compositora Chabuca Granda, titulada “El Puente de los Suspiros” en el año 1960.

Constructed in 1876, by the necessity to unite the ends and to allow the passage of the Ayacucho and the Hermitage street. It was witness of the destruction of Barranco by the Chilean army during the War of the Pacific the 14 of January of 1881. The name of the Bridge of the Sighs derives from the innumerable romances that they had and have as frame this colorful barranquino corner. The tradition indicates that who sees the bridge for the first time and rosses it without breathing will be fulfilled one desire. Also it served as inspiration to a famous song of the composer Chabuca Granda, titled “the Bridge of the Sighs” in 1960.

PUENTEDELOSSUSPIROSBRIDGEOFTHESIGHTS

Se encuentra ubicado frente al Parque Municipal del distrito, el mismo que es el ingreso al Puente de los Suspiros. El pasaje se construyó en los años 90 en la antigua calle Zepita, lleva el nombre de la famosa compositora y cantante. El Alcalde Don Antonio Mezarina Tong ha remodelado el espacio, conservando su arquitectura y belleza. Se aprecian dos pérgolas tradicionales, coloridos jardines, farolas y murales que relatan la historia de Barranco.

Located in front of the Municipal Park of the district, the same that is the enter of the “Puente de los Suspiros”. The passage was constructed in the early 90’s in the old Zepita street, and has the name of the famous composer and singer. The mayor Don Antonio Mezarina Tong has remodeled the atmosphere, conserving his architecture and beauty. Two traditional pérgolas are appraised, colorful gardens, lampposts and murals that relate the history of Barranco.

UBICACIÓNEl distrito de Barranco se encuentra ubicado al costado del mar, en la parte sur de la ciudad de Lima a unos 20 minutos de la Plaza de Armas en carro tomando la ruta de la vía expresa.
