Broadway Blast-Off
Transcript of Broadway Blast-Off
OK, I get it… …you have trouble inviting people to church. I know you love your church, it matters a great deal to you, and you wish more people could know of the joy and spiritual encouragement we experience in church together. But, inviting people is awkward. We have become so hesitant because of high
profile evangelism that strikes us as pushy and off-putting. Plus, we don’t know exactly what to say to people. I get it. Such sentiments are largely authentic and understandable. They are also besides the point. Evangelism is not a dirty word despite how it may have been misused in the past. To the contrary, evangelism is a requirement of all Christians. Evangelism means “bringing good news”, and God expects us to share His good news of salvation in Christ Jesus. C.S Lewis said that the Christian faith is spread through invitation and persuasion—not force, coercion, fear, or law. Persuasion can be challenging. That is why it is the second item listed. The first is invitation. Without some kind of invitation, persuasion can’t make an impact. So, join with me this week, this month, this year, and focus on invitation. This week is easy. PENTECOST Juice
and Joplin Sunday with the Barnharts as our special musical guests, with support from Debbie Mitchell and One Track Train, will be a great Sunday and AN EASY INVITATION to extend to someone: “Hey, come on out for our wonderful Sunday music this week, and meet our spectacular pastor.” Ok, maybe that second part is too much, but you are certainly capable of inviting your unchurched friends or religiously disaffected friends to your church for one music-filled Sunday. More people need to know what we are up to, what we are about, and the spiritual journeys we are traveling. Let the Holy Spirit guide you in your words and your outreach! And… for more evangelism inspiration, check out this video on our website, and I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!

Jeff and Anne Barnhart – Ivory & Gold
Ivory & Gold celebrates the greatest examples of American jazz, blues, ragtime, Broadway, and hits
from the Great American Songbook. Consisting of Anne Barnhart on flute and vocals with Jeff
Barnhart on piano and vocals, the duo was formed in 2001 to perform to great acclaim at the
prestigious annual Jazz Festival in Sun Valley, Idaho. Subsequently, Ivory & Gold has been invited
to appear in hundreds of venues from coast-to-coast and internationally.
Anne is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at Catholic
University of America in Washington, D.C. and she holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in
Music. Anne is a member of the International Who’s Who in Music and Musicians in the Classical
and Light-Classical Fields. She is lauded for her impeccable tone and phrasing and effortless
virtuosity.
Jeff Barnhart is a highly regarded pianist, vocalist, arranger, bandleader, recording artist, composer,
pedagogue, and entertainer. Jeff began his professional career at age 14 performing throughout
New England at jazz clubs and restaurants as a soloist and with ensembles. He continued to
maintain a busy performing schedule while earning a double bachelor’s degree in Music and English
(Summa Cum Laude) from Connecticut College.
Both Anne and Jeff appear on the prestigious USA-based Arbors Records label. Their CDs are
available for purchase following the morning’s worship service.
Broadway’s own One Track Train will play the following sets as a part of
Sedalia’s Scott Joplin Music Festival weekend:
Thursday noon, Friday at 1pm, Saturday at 1pm all at Maple Leaf Park (Main & Lamine Aves.)
The band will also be kicking off a new event at the Festival: The Rent Party at the Bothwell Hotel ballroom. One Track Train will launch this rollicking party

Women’s Association to visit Handel Haus in Cole Camp
The Women’s Association will travel to the Handel Haus in Cole Camp on Thursday, June 8,
2017 as a summer social.
For those of you who have never been there, the Handel Haus has super delicious food and
there are usually six or seven desserts from which to choose. They also have a huge stock of
vintage fashion women’s clothing, home décor items, jewelry, bath and
body items, etc.
Let Mary Lee McGuire, Nedra Zimmerschied, or the church office know
by Tuesday, June 6th if you plan to go so Handel Haus will have enough
seating and food for us. We will be carpooling from our church.
A special Deacon offering will be
collected after service Sunday to help
support Deacon projects!
