Brityrex International returnsto Manchester with an exhi-bition that reflects the gro-wing confidence of the UKtyre and equipment market. Since the last Brityrex in

2007 our venue has been re-branded asManchester Central and invested around£30 million to improve its facilities, whichwe hope will make your visit more enjoy-able and productive.

But it’s what happens inside the exhi-bition halls that matters most. In thatrespect Brityrex is a larger show than lasttime, with 20% more exhibitors from theUK and around the world, all eager totalk business and establish trading relati-onships.

Brityrex is fundamentally a tyre eventbut it also mirrors the expansion anddiversification of the sector. This is amplydemonstrated by the many tyreshop andworkbay equipment, accessory, tool andservices suppliers exhibiting at the show.

The tyre business is a truly globalenterprise and Brityrex reflects this byattracting exhibitors and visitors fromdozens of countries. Many are excitingnew suppliers seeking to establish a pre-

sence in the UK, while others are familiarnames returning to meet establishedcontacts and distributors.

During the three days of this exhibi-tion business deals worth millions ofpounds, euros and dollars will be signedand agreed. Important relationships willbe established that may last for years. Inour view, there simply is no substitute formeeting people face-to-face in a dedica-ted business environment.

Of course, the end of the recessiondoes not signal a time of absolute sta-bility; with the introduction of tyrelabelling on the UK and widerEuropean market not much more thana year away, manufacturers and distri-butors will be predicting the potentialeffects of this legislation on their busi-ness. Your presence at a show locatedin one of the key markets to be affectedby these changes provides you withthe perfect opportunity to prepare forwhat is to come.

A look at the exhibitors list forBrityrex 2010 proves that the show isonce again a venue for both returningexhibitors and fresh faces, allowing visitors to attain the twin expo objecti-ves of meeting up with existing custo-mers and seeking avenues for newbusiness. In 2007, we noted that Asiaand Eastern Europe were continuing toemerge; perhaps now it is fair to say that what little of these marketswas still submerged is now very much visible, an impression supported bytheir strong representation at this year’sshow.

Tyre Education for Schools (TEFORS) isa high quality teaching programmesupplied through sponsorship toschools. It has been developed byScrap Tyre Exchange and was laun-ched in the North East of England andis now extending the programmenationally with the recent endorse-ment of the Tyre Industry Federation.

The TEFORS programme is a halfday teaching resource aimed at 10 to11 year olds which includes informati-

on relating to tyre manufacturing, tyresafety and tyre recycling. These topicsare linked to the science, maths,English and citizenship curricula inclu-ded in the National Curriculum. Theprogramme has been designed byeducation specialists and has beenextensively tested with teachers and inthe classroom and is a unique marke-ting opportunity for all in the tyretrade.

TEFORS is already developing aprogramme for Secondary Schoolsand Colleges with the entire program-me planned to be an online teachingresource in 2011.

The Tyre Industry Federation, whosemembers are, The British TyreManufacturers Association, the ImportedTyre Manufacturers Association, theNational Tyre Distributors Association,The Retread Manufacturers Associationand the Tyre Recovery Association arehosting a members lounge for their use for the duration of the exhibition.The lounge will also be the location fora number of private meetings and alsoa brief workshop on the upcominglabeling legislation which will have amajor impact on both retailers, wholesa-lers and manufacturers when it is intro-duced in 2012. Visitors wishing toattend the workshop should visit thelounge and book a place as seat arestrictly limited.

The Tyre Industry Federation wasestablished in 2005 and has develo-ped into a forum for industry co-ope-ration and to address common con-cerns. It also provides a platform forlobbying on issues that have animpact across the Industry.
