With a focus on Quality First, Gila Regional achieved a $10 million dollar financial turn-around in less than 11 months. During this time, many of our Key Quality Measures also improved. In addition, 73% of our caregivers surveyed (312 total) rated themselves Brian Cunningham CEO, Gila Regional Medical Center Bottom Line FY 2014 saw an extraordinary financial turnaround for GRMC. In less than 11 months, GRMC had achieved a $10 million turnaround to its bottom line performance. This represents a 14% turnaround. Core Measures GRMC’s scores have steadily improved over the past year. These publicly reported measures are very close to being in the nation’s top 10%. GRMC Auxiliary Our Gila Regional Auxiliary steps up to provide support and service to our organization through a wide variety of activities. In FY 2014, these dedicated men and women donated over 19,000 hours of service. They awarded $15,000 in healthcare scholarships, more than $7,000 in hospital equipment and served over 1,190 meals to Cancer Center and Infusion patients. Countless numbers of patients and visitors have asked a volunteer to guide them around GRMC. They are a non-profit organization who supports GRMC’s mission and raises funds through donations, Gift Shop, Flower Sales, Scrub Sales, Linen Sales, and Purse Sales. To become a volunteer call 575-538-4074. GRMC Foundation Gila Regional Medical Center Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, reached $3 million in donations to our hospital during FY2014. These funds were raised and grants supported for equipment, education, and community health projects. Nursing Excellence Program Development FY 2014 GRMC began work on Gila Nursing Excellence System (GNES). The re-engineering of our nursing care delivery model is necessary to fix outdated systems and will allow more quality time with our patients. Focus areas are leadership, staffing models, recruitment/retention, education and quality of care.

Linear Accelerator Cancer Center FY 2014 Purchased and installed, our new linear accelerator brings enhanced cancer care to Gila Regional. During the 2013 Legislative session, House Bill 580 / Senate Bill 495 were presented by Representative Rudy Martinez and Senator Howie Morales. This bill signed into action and authorized the New Mexico Finance Authority (NMFA) to issue additional cigarette tax revenue bonds for Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) and Nor-Lea General Hospital.

Housekeeping Scored Top 10% During FY 2014, scores in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction survey reached the top 10% in the nation.

Emergency Dept. Physician Services Innova Contracted In response to feedback by our community, we have contracted with a new emergency department medical provider team. Innova has a regional presence, based out of Colorado. We feel confident that this new team will better serve our community. The new contract goes in effect January 2015.

Future Construction Improving Patient Care Facility needs are long overdue. Areas have been identified and plans will be implemented during FY 2015. Areas of focus—Labor & Delivery/Nursery, Surgery Department and space for multi-specialty provider practices.

Process Excellence Program Development FY 2014 GRMC developed and implemented an innovative approach to project management. This high level evidenced-based approach drives, coordinates and monitors all organizational projects. This ensures a high quality-accountability structure for the entire organization.
