Welcome Brighton College Nursery and Pre-Prep School is a friendly, happy school for children aged 3 to 8 years. At this early stage, we believe it is essential that children enjoy their childhood whilst at the same time developing a lifelong love of learning. In our bright, modern school, with its superb playing fields overlooking the sea, our pupils have the freedom to do just that. In this warm, supportive environment each child is valued and encouraged to seek challenge, to understand the importance of effort and, most importantly, to have lots of fun.

A vibrant, bright and buzzing family school for pupils aged 8 to 13, Brighton College Prep School is well known for its welcoming atmosphere and its high standard of pastoral care. We want our pupils both to enjoy school and to be inspired to achieve their full potential. Drawing upon our own outstanding resources, as well as those of the senior school, we provide a very wide range of opportunities and ensure that these are always underpinned with the greatest support and encouragement.

We hope that you will visit us soon. You will be sure of a very warm welcome.

“ Such a fun place to be – the corridors are bright and buzzing, the children are engaged and talk nineteen to the dozen.” GOOD SCHOOLS GUIDE

A CULTUREOF KINDNESS

“Be Good, Be Kind, Be Honest”: our school motto is at the very heart of everything we do at Brighton College Nursery and Pre-Prep School. We encourage kindness, honesty, self-discipline, good manners, tolerance and consideration for others, creating a culture where all the children feel valued and understand the impact their actions have on those around them.

As they move on to the prep school, we aim to help each pupil to build a warm and strong character. The pursuit of whole-hearted effort is our priority; whilst the school praises and encourages high standards of achievement, we believe that what you are is even more important than what you achieve.

“ The school’s open, friendly approach…radiates happiness, fun and considerable care for individuals.” INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE

In the nursery and pre-prep school, our experienced team shapes the curriculum to suit children’s needs and interests, to ensure they leave us as confident, well-prepared and highly motivated learners. We believe children should learn from, and be inspired by, the best. From their earliest years, our pupils benefit from the expertise of visiting specialist teachers in a wide range of subjects, from languages and swimming to PE, art and music.

Building on these strong foundations, the prep school provides a superb, all-round education that stimulates, challenges and captivates. Pupils are taught by subject specialists and the excellent academic curriculum is complemented by a wealth of sport, music, creative and performing arts, as well as a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Trips, activities and competitions abound.

“ Pupils demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skill beyond expectations.” INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE

ACHIEVEMENT AND INNOVATION

“ Exciting, enjoyable challenges and wide-ranging experiences ensure a very positive start.” INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE

We aim not only to challenge and inspire all the children to achieve their very best, but also to equip them for the future, whatever it may hold. In the nursery and pre-prep school, from the age of four each child learns both French and Mandarin Chinese, and innovation is central to our ethos. Whether providing pioneering scooter training for nursery-aged children, or publishing books of our pupils’ work, we try new things and give our pupils the confidence to do the same.

Whatever their talents, pupils in our prep school are given the encouragement and support they need to pursue their interests to the highest degree. Our pupils not only enjoy an outstanding record of senior school scholarship awards, but regularly secure national, regional and county titles in a wealth of disciplines, from sport to music and design technology to drama.

SPORTFOR ALL

As part of Brighton College, one of the leading sporting schools in England, both schools are exceptionally well equipped to introduce children to a variety of skills, to nurture sporting talent and to awaken in all our pupils a love of sport and physical activity.

We believe passionately in offering a wide range of opportunities to all children, whatever their ability. Specialist sports lessons and coaching commence at the very outset in the nursery and pre-prep school, where children are also given their first taste of competitive play, benefiting both high-achievers and the less confident. The prep school’s very strong record in sport includes national titles in netball and county titles in netball, rugby and cricket. It also excels in football, swimming and athletics. The school offers a huge array of teams.

“ Sport is high profile, the school regularly winning county titles, with fixtures available for all levels of ability.” GOOD SCHOOLS GUIDE

MUSICMusic is central to our schools. Specialist music teaching is given to all, from nursery age upwards, helping to awaken a passion for the subject. As they move through the pre-prep school, pupils continue to put theory into practice, with each child learning the recorder and ukulele. Tuition in a range of other instruments is also available.

In the prep school, three choirs, two orchestras, a concert band, and groups for guitar, string, wind and percussion all thrive in its uniquely supportive and creative atmosphere. The school is renowned for the high quality of its musicals and concerts, in which all have the opportunity to take part.

“ Musical activities are particularly strong, and cater for all.” INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE

PERFORMING ARTS

Each child in the nursery and pre-prep school has the opportunity to participate in shows and concerts throughout the year, helping to build confidence through music and drama. Dance lessons are available from nursery onwards, whether in the school’s own hall, or in the senior school’s state-of-the-art dance studio. Even our very youngest pupils take to the stage in Brighton College Dance School’s stunning annual show.

Opportunities for dance and drama widen still further in the prep school, where there is also a thriving LAMDA drama programme. The school has its own drama studio, as well as access to superb facilities on the main campus, and our pupils enjoy an excellent record in securing senior school scholarships in the performing arts.

“ The curriculum is supported by an exceptionally high number and range of extra-curricular activities.” INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE

CREATIVEARTS

Specialist art teaching commences in the nursery and pre-prep school, where children are encouraged to express their own ideas and to experiment with a wide variety of media, as well as to learn from the work of important artists through the ages.

In the prep school’s light and airy art studio and fabulously equipped design technology room, creativity and innovation continue to be fostered, drawing on a wide range of techniques and skills. The school enjoys an impressive record of awards, and indeed of national success, in both art and design technology, the latter including the Young Engineers of the Year award.

BEYOND THE GATES

We believe a firm partnership between home and school is essential for a child’s happiness and education, and encourage strong links with parents.

We also encourage children to look outwards, to care for others and for the environment. Our lovely pupils never fail to rise to the challenge to raise money for local and national charities and prep school pupils also work tirelessly to support a partner school in Kenya.

Thriving school councils help our pupils develop a real sense of responsibility from the youngest age. Regular school trips and outings not only enrich their learning, but also broaden their horizons, helping each one to embrace the world and become ready to take their own future part in it.

The vast majority of our pupils move on to Brighton College senior school upon leaving our gates; here they flourish and thrive, building on the firm foundations that our nursery, pre-prep and prep schools have laid.
