Background

Building on the concept Note of the Conference and towards providing inspirational guidance to the meeting and a vision of the future we want for African Agriculture, the high level panellists are invited to share experiences in that has worked, what has not worked, what do governments and private sector need to do to achieve transformation. Sharing of personal experiences is strongly encouraged. Panellists: H.E. President Macky SALL, President of the Republic of Senegal H.E. Mr. Augustine PONYO, Prime Minister, Democratic Republic of Congo Dr. Akinwumi A. ADESINA, President, African Development Bank Group H.E. Dr. John KUFUOR, Former President of the Republic of Ghana and Founder of John A. Kufuor Foundation Ms. Agnes KALIBATA, President, Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa M. Mostafa TERRAB, President and Director General, Office Chérifien des Phosphates Questions to be discussed will include:

• What does Africa need for agricultural transformation? How do we get to the agreed

goals? • What can the AfDB do in support of African agricultural transformation? • Are central bank bonds a viable way to spur increased investment in agriculture? • What are the three most critical investment actions a government should take to

transform its agriculture sector? • Plans abound but implementation often weak – what is needed to ensure success? • What will climate change mean for African agriculture in the future? • What lessons from support to agriculture in post-conflict countries? • What off-grid power solutions are there for agricultural processing in rural areas? • What do countries need to do to translate the Malabo Commitments to reality? • What are two key steps we can take to increase agricultural trade in Africa?
