Brief Industrial Profile of Bhiwani District
1. General Characteristics of the District
Bhiwani city is mentioned in Ain-e-Akbari. It was founded by a Rajput King name was Neem
Singh after his wife Bhani. The Bhani spelling changed to Bhiyani and subsequently to Bhiwani.
Bhiwani has been a prominent center of commerce since the time of the Mughals. Bhiwani is
also known for its temples and is known as the "Small Kashi" of India because of them. Gauri
Shankar temple (Kirorimal temple) of Bhiwani is known throughout the country.
1.1 Location & Geographical Area.
Bhiwani is located at 28.78°N 76.13°E.It has an average elevation of 225 meters
(738 feet).District Bhiwani is situated between 28.19 deg. and 29.05 deg. north latitude and
75.26 deg. and 76.28 deg. east longitudes. The Bhiwani District is bordered by Hissar District on
its north, some area of Jhunjunu and Churu districts of Rajasthan on its west, Mahendergarh and
Jhunjunu districts on its south and District Rohtak to the east. It is 124 kilometers from Delhi and
285 kilometers from Chandigarh.
1.2 Topography
In North Region of the district there are Alluvial Plains and in South there is Semi -Desert with
remnants of Aravali Range Mountains. The Soil is loom in the North region and sandy in the
Southwest region of Bhiwani District. The Groundwater is mainly saline with some of small
pokets of fresh water in Southwest. The groundwater level of the district is decreasing fastly.
Lack of any Drainage system is the main cause of salinity of ground water. Total area covered by
Bhiwani District is 5,099 sq.km.

1.3 Availability of Minerals.
The district is famous for its mineral resources. Different types of mineral resources such as
kankar, saltpeter road metal are available in the district. There are about 110 queries of kankar
and building stone in the district. There are about 270 stone crushing units mostly situated in
kalyana and Tosham. These stone crushers are meeting the building material demand of the
major area.
1.4 Forests
Total geographical area in the district is 5099Sq.kms.out of this area under forest is 3000Ha
which constitutes 0.67% of total area. The important forest products are Shisham, kikar, Amaltas
,gulmohar, Safeda etc. This forest resource of the district is helpful for checking advance of
desert of Rajsthan in Haryana. Based on forest resources industries like wooden furniture, wood
sawing has potential to set up in the area.
