Term 1, Issue 5 2017
Brewarrina Central School News
We have reached the end of Term 1, 2017. It has
been an action packed and exciting term where
the students of Brewarrina Central have been
involved in learning a great deal in many subject
areas. The Kindergarten students have all settled
into “Big” school really well and the Year 7 are
manoeuvring their way through their first year of
Secondary school. The Year 12 students have
completed their Half Yearly Exams. All students
from Kindergarten to Year 12 have generally been
making a genuine effort to engage in their
learning and improve their results. It has been a
pleasure to walk around the school to see
students engrossed in their learning and involved
in a myriad of activities both within and outside
of the classroom. All the staff at Brewarrina
Central School are dedicated to ensuring that our
students attain their goals. I would like to thank
all the students for their excellent work this term.
I would also like to thank the families of our
students who have ensured that the students
attend school regularly, in uniform and prepared
for learning. Please remember we can always
help out if required. Thank you too to the
wonderful staff who make sure everything
happens as it should. Without their energy,
enthusiasm and dedication Brewarrina Central
would not be the vibrant place it is.
This week we will be involved in the Whole
School Assembly which will also be the school’s
ANZAC Assembly. I would love to see as many
students as possible on Tuesday 25th April to take
part in the Community’s ANZAC Day Ceremony.
We also have the Easter Hat Parade and various
other Easter Activities which are causing
excitement in the K-6.
On Friday afternoon we begin the Holidays. I wish
everyone a happy, restful and SAFE holiday. I look
forward to seeing all our students back at school
on WEDNESDAY, 26TH APRIL ready to take on
Term 2.
Thank you and Take Care everyone.
Christine Grieves.
Thank you for a wonderful term! It has been jam-
packed with many opportunities for our children
to demonstrate their talents and abilities. Thank
you to all the staff that have supported the
children with this.
We have a large number of K-6 students
attending a PBL morning tea to acknowledge our
values of being SAFE RESPECTFUL LEARNERS.
This week we are finishing off with our Easter Hat
parade, PBL Prize draw and handball tournament.
Hopefully the Easter bunny will also drop in and
leave us some goodies.
All the staff would like to wish you Happy Easter
and we hope you have a safe, enjoyable break
and we look forward to seeing everyone next
term.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Thanks, Beck Williams

wristbands are able to take part in the reward.
Parents will also receive letters home.
Chantae reported that her experience as
photographer with Moorimbilla was awesome.
She learnt some fantastic new skills and is keen to
keep developing her photography finesse.
The school values input from all parents and
carers. We have a very active staff that work
tirelessly for every student. Please remember if
you have any questions or concerns about your
child, to contact the school and we will always do
our best to work with you as we all want to same
thing: Smart, strong and successful kids that will
become the leaders of tomorrow.
Thankyou to the secondary staff for their
dedication and hard work this term, all teachers
and support staff do a fantastic job. Thanks to
Adam and Uncle Charlie- Clontarf engages and
supports our students no like other. And aren’t
we lucky enough that we also have Girl Fit to
support our girls- thankyou Mrs Close, Aunty Beck
and your team. Wishing our students and families
a restful break- see you next term!!
Sarah Trapman
The playground continues to be a focus for the
PBL team and all staff. A reminder for students:
Place rubbish in the bin
Sit to eat, then clean up your space
Plastic bottles only at school ‘
Unfortunately there has also been an increase in
graffiti. Our lovely new tables in the high school
have scratch marks and students have written
their names on them. This is disappointing, as a
lot of work went into ensuring the high school
students have a positive, welcoming learning
space. The graffiti will be cleaned over the
holidays, and we hope that all students will
respect the space from now on.
Keep your eyes open for a new competition next
term, focusing on rubbish and keeping our school
clean.
A massive thankyou to the hardworking PBL team
this term, always coming up with new ideas and
putting in a lot of extra time for our kids. The
support of all staff is essential to the success of
the PBL framework in the overall wellbeing of our
students, so thanks everyone!!
At our school we are

PDHPE and Sports News
We have had a really busy term with PDHPE and
Sports.
Year 7 and 8 have been looking at scenarios
surrounding risky situations and are doing a great
job. Their effort in class has been high and
continues to improve. Special mentions go to
Kobi Bennett and Lara Bennett.
Year 9 and 10 have been looking at ways to plan
for the future and have been developing skills in
writing cover letters and resumes. Great work
from Stevee Hammond and Haily Dorante.
9/10 PASS have been working really hard on their
assessment task. They have been researching all
the technical aspects of their chosen sports and
presenting their findings to their classmates.
Special mention goes to Alii Pakutoa and Janalee
Conroy.
Year 11 has started their preliminary HSC and I
could not be prouder. They are working
independently and are learning topics
surrounding ‘the dimensions of health’ and
‘health promotion’. Their assessment task is to
interview a range of people on their attitudes
surrounding health.
Year 12 have been investigating ‘Health Priorities
in Australia’ and are looking at key concepts
surrounding health care facilities and the Ottawa
charter.
In sports news, Alii, Bailee, Josiah and Diondre
travelled to Cobar 2 weeks ago for the NRL
knockout. The boys joined teams with Bourke and
played really well. The highlight of the day was
Diondre’s inside pass to Alii who did the self-
proclaimed ‘shimmy shake’ and scored under the
posts.
The 2nd Annual Rugby 7’s Kurtley Beale Shield will
be on the 19th May. Please come and support the
boys and girls.
Here are some pictures from the term.
Clontarf News
The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the
education, discipline, Self-esteem, life skills and
employment prospects of young Aboriginal
men and by doing so, equip them to participate
more meaningfully in society.
General Comment: The Academy has had a
very busy Term 1. Last week was the Senior
Rugby League Carnival at Dubbo. This is the
largest Carnival we have held for the seniors since
NSW opened its initial Academies. The 16 teams
showcased some great skill over the event with
the Bre/Bourke team no exception. There was
some wonderful teamwork involved in the tries
scored during the day. The Team was eventually
knocked out in the semifinals and missed the
opportunity to win back to back senior titles. The
winners of the day the Melville Mantis team
showed that although being a new Academy that
they have captured the Clontarf way quickly by
playing hard but fair football at all times.
The team celebrated a great Term 1 and carnival
by having Pizzas and heading to the movies. This
was a great way to enjoy the night and chat
about some of the days excellent games.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank
everyone for their ongoing support in Term 1 we
have enjoyed great success in the classroom and
on the sporting field. This could not be achieved
without the help of all of you who give up your
own time and effort to see the Academy fellas
succeed. We look forward to seeing you all in and
around the Academy in Term 2.
