Our contribution is towards the actions that have raised the discussions about social policies in Brazil to the same level as policies to guarantee rights.

Hunger eradication (Fome Zero – Zero Hunger) and fighting poverty (Bolsa Familia and Brazil without Extreme Poverty – Brasil Sem Miséria) were our original focus

The Socio Environmental Protection Floor aims to ensure:

1. Income Security

2. Access to Services

3. Environmental quality

The Challenge

Income guarantee with access to basic services:

To break poverty spatial concentration To break intergenerational poverty cycle

i.e.: to enable families to let their children study it is necessary for them to have sufficient income (no child labor) and a school facility nearby

Acess to services with environmental quality:

To overcome the environmental aspects which perpetuate poverty

lack of public authority degraded conditions

i.e.: families need to have access to sanitation in order not to pollute the river

To secure that improvements in the environment and family aspects be complementary when overcoming degrading poverty

i.e.: Families can have a non-degrading home where their children can study after school

The Socio environmental Protection Floor summary

Include an specific section about the Global Socio environmental Protection Floor in the final declaration of the conference

This will be one of the main products of Rio+ 20.

What we may agree about the Socio environmental Protection Floor in Rio +20

If we agree on a common agenda we may advance more firmly in the definition of indicators

That includes the definition of SDGs, its indicators and governance structures
