Bravante V

Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc of Panama City, Florida, handed over Bravante V to Boldini SA, Bravante Group, of Brazil in November 2013. The delivery is the first in a series of five vessels under construction by the yard for this customer.

The vessels are ABS-classed, AC diesel-electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled platform supply vessels measuring 86.5m x 18.3m x 7.5m. Four Cummins QSK-60DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged IMO Tier II diesel generator engines, each rated at 1,825kW at 1,800 rev/min and mounted at main deck level, provide the main propulsion power. Cummins also furnished four Marathon Model 744 690VAC main generators, which supply two 690VAC electric motors driving two Schottel Combi-Drive type SCD 2020 single fixed-pitch propellers, with nozzles rated 2,500kW at 750 rev/min each for a total of 6,700hp.

It is worth noting that Bravante VI and all subsequent vessels in the series are to be provided with an ABS FiFi1 notation external fire-fighting and self-drenching system.

Schottel also provided two STT 4 fixed-pitch reversing tunnel thrusters rated at 1,180kW, each with direct coupled

Hyundai 690VAC electric motors. GE Energy delivered the complete integrated diesel-electric package system, including the thruster drives, motors, control systems, DP2 system, switchboards, motor control centres, automation and navigation/communication electronics. These vessels are capable of a maximum speed of 14 knots with a cruising speed of 12 knots. The fully-integrated bridge is arranged for increased visibility and features the latest technology in navigation and communication equipment.

Each vessel has three single officer cabins, five twin-berth cabins and four four-berth cabins to cater for a total of 29 persons, which would comprise a maximum crew of 17, plus a dozen offshore workers.

As mentioned, Bravante V is the first of five PSVs under contract (others in the series have already been launched). Each vessel has below-deck capacities of 1,600m³ of cargo fuel, 237m³ of ships service fuel, 1,944m³ drill water, 800m³ of additional drill/brine water, 800m3 of additional fuel/liquid mud, 244m3 of dry-bulk mud and 100.6m³ of potable water.

STX Canada Marine provided the basic STX SV290 design, which forms the basis

for the very successful and proven Eastern Shipbuilding ‘Tiger Shark Class’ series. Five other OSVs in this series have been delivered to Eastern’s clients and have already proven themselves in worldwide operations.
