Issue 3 March 2020
THANK YOU...
To all who attended the drop
in meeting on 1st February.
Both the Parish Council and
the village groups were very
grateful for those who
volunteered and those who
took an interest in their
activities.
Thanks also to the children of Bradleys Both Community Primary School who took part in the village hall logo competition. Congratulations to Finn from Class 4 who won and whose design will be edited by a graphic designer to form the Village Hall logo. Finn’s design depicts the village surrounded by a red ribbon symbolising how everyone in the village comes together.

Those living in the Heath Drive and Green Close area will be aware of the cherry tree planting scheme with 6 young trees in place and ready to bloom again in 2020 despite all the recent high winds. A further 6 trees will be planted this year thanks again to the grant support provided by ward Councillor Andy Brown. With the agreement of local residents it is hoped to plant up to 20 cherry trees in this
part of Bradley in the coming years.
Bradley In Bloom
Bradley in Bloom is a new group in Bradleys Both village with the
aim of bringing people together to be involved in projects which
improve our village environment. The vision is to improve the look
of the environment whilst helping to make the village more
environmentally friendly. This would be achieved by planting more
trees and plants, including wildflowers, and installing habitat areas
around the village. Hopefully by doing so homes would be
provided for wildlife, soil erosion would be prevented and carbon
dioxide captured.
In 2020 Bradley in Bloom have entered ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’
competition organised by the Royal Horticultural Society and their
first project will be to improve the outside space around the village
hall. The work will start early spring and they would love you to be
involved. It will be a lot of fun and a brilliant way of working
together as a community. At the village hall a community food
garden will be provided, which will be a designated area where
vegetables, fruit and herbs are grown for people to help themselves
to the produce. Borders and planters will also be planted up for the
community to enjoy and to benefit wildlife.
Bradley in Bloom will need to buy materials for the project and
would warmly welcome sponsors. In exchange for sponsorship they
would advertise your involvement.
A monthly gardening club is also being set up and the initial
meeting is on Thursday 5th March at Bradley Village Hall. It will
be a chance for people to meet, have a cuppa and share horticultural
ideas. Bradley Gardening Club will have guest speakers, gardening
book, plant and seed swops. It is also hoped that the gardening club
will, from time to time, visit gardens and plant centres.
If you would like to be involved, or would like further information
about Bradley in Bloom or Bradley Gardening Club, please contact
Katie 07855548477 or Susan 07823 347561.

There are signs prohibiting dogs from
going onto the playing field, children’s
play area or the picnic area. As these
are areas where children play all dog
owners are asked to honour the
notices. Dog walkers also use the
open country, farm land, footpaths
and bridal ways in the parish.
Safe and hygienic practice is required
in these areas also, without diligence
and good practice farm animals and recreational walkers can be negatively
affected
Craven District Council state that If a person in charge of a dog fails to clear up
after it, they may be issued with a £50 fixed penalty. The offender will then have 14
days in which to pay the fine or face prosecution in Magistrate's Court, where a
maximum fine of £1000 can be imposed.
However, councils across the country find it difficult to catch offenders. Wayne
Gray, Environmental Health Officer at Craven District Council, said: ―Tackling dog
fouling is very important to us because it is one of the biggest concerns among
residents.
―We do treat this as a high priority and seek to educate and inform the public. We
carry out regular patrols and will issue fixed penalty notices to people who don’t
clean up after their pets.
―People often ask why we don’t use DNA testing but that doesn’t really work as it
depends on the owner registering the dog in the first place – an irresponsible
owner is unlikely to do this.
―It’s a tricky problem to solve. People can help – if you witness an irresponsible dog
owner who fails to clean up after their dog, please make a note of the date, time
and location of the incident, along with a description of the dog and the owner, and
report it to us along with their address if you know it.
―We know that most dog owners are responsible – it’s just a small minority who
spoil it for the rest of us.‖
If you have any information about an offender then please report this to
Craven District Council at www.cravendc.gov.uk/cleaner-neighbourhoods/

Historic Minute item from the
Parish Council Meeting in 1898
November 25th
1898
Meeting called to consider the stoppage of the footpath leading
from above Hamblethorp Low Barn to Hamblethorp swing bridge.
Evidence was tendered by some of the oldest inhabitants as to its
being used for 60 years without being stopped or obstructed and
the following resolution was unanimously adopted: ―That we the
Ratepayers of Bradleys Both strongly protest against the attempted
stoppage of the footpath from near Hamblethorp Low Barn to
Hamblethorp swing bridge, which has been used by the inhabitants
from time immemorial and humbly beg the District Council to take
such steps as will prevent any interference with the said path in the
future.‖
