Lot 2220- ERN COWLEY: 1918-19 Carlton Football Jumper navy blue wool with 'CFC' logo sewn onto front, extremely rare,some minor faults. The earliest known jumper with the Carlton monogram. Together with book 'The CarltonStory' by Buggy & Bell [Melbourne, 1958] with signature of Ern Cowley and some sections highlighted; also Carlton1919 Annual Report. [Ern Cowley played 23 games for Carlton between 1918-19, and kicked 51 goals. 'TheEncyclopedia of AFL Footballers' states he was a clever and useful forward from Brunswick; he headed the Leaguegoalkicking with 34 goals in his debut season of 1918 and later crossed to VFA club Prahran. The Victoria Coffee Palace was located in Collins Street adjacent to the TownHall; its Collins Street frontage was demolished when the Town Hall was extended in the 1920s, but the Little CollinsStreet portion survives as the Victoria Hotel.
