The team of Clio, Sam, Lauren and Sophie did a great job debating the negative side of whether parents should have their children do 30 minutes of chores each day. Their arguments were well presented and they came away with a win. They were complemented on the way they worked together as a team and their strong preparation. This Friday, 23 June will see our second debating team ‘Turquoise Lightning’ contest their debate against the second Ben Venue team and we wish them all the best. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

This week we have been recognising the significance of

NAIDOC Week and students have been enjoying a variety

of activities. The theme of ‘Our Languages Matter’ is

relevant to all students in our school and through the

activities we have been undertaking on the Anaiwan

language, students and staff have developed a much greater

understanding of the importance and relevance of language

in cultures. We are fortunate to have such a great mix of

cultures in our school and it has been wonderful to see

children from a wide variety of backgrounds participating

positively in our NAIDOC Week. Thank you to our

Aboriginal Education Team for planning and organising a

great week for our students.

Student reports for Semester 1 will be sent home next

Wednesday, 28 June 2017. Teachers put a lot of time and

effort into ensuring reports are accurate and give a clear

picture for parents in understanding the achievements of

their children. Interview times to talk through reports and

student progress will be available at the beginning of Term

3 for parents. A note outlining these details will be sent

home next week.

Yesterday our ‘The Armidale Armadillos’ debating team

were successful in winning their debate against Ben Venue

Public School. We wish our ‘Turquoise Lightning’ team all

the best for their debate on Friday. On Monday Yash,

Rachel, Sam and Chiyo all took part in the Multicultural

Perspectives Public Speaking final at Ross Hill Public School

and all students are to be congratulated on their

outstanding efforts.

Well done to all Armidale City students who represented

Armidale District PSSA at North West PSSA Cross

Country in Coolah last Friday. Congratulations to Chiyo who

won the 11 years girls event. Chiyo will now represent

North West PSSA at the NSW PSSA Cross Country in

Sydney early next term.

Our focus recently in class, the playground and peer

support groups have been around respect and being

respectful. We have also been discussing the saying ‘Treat

others the way you wish to be treated’ and I would like to

congratulate all students on the way they have been setting

goals in relation to this saying.

A reminder to all families that supervision in the morning

for students commences at 8.40am, all students should be

arriving at school as close as possible to this time.

Have a great week everyone.

SRC NEWS The Student Representative

Council is pleased to announce

that we would like to support the

Armidale Community Carevan

with a food hamper to help

struggling families this winter.

The Carevan helps homeless and

struggling families by providing

food. Students are asked to donate non-perishable foods to

go into a hamper to be donated to the van at the end of the

school term.

Items suitable to donate could include: cans or packets of

soup, noodles, tins of baked beans, packets of pasta etc.

Donations can be left at the office, classroom or Mrs

MacGregor’s office.

Thank you for your support for this worthy cause.

Mrs Leonie MacGregor

3/4H CLASS NEWS 3/4H have had a busy term. We have

thoroughly enjoyed the Novel Study –

‘The SpiderWick Chronicles:’ The

Field Guide’. The mystery creature, a

Boggart has had us all intrigued. We

even had a visit from the Boggart

messing with Bahar’s desk!! 3/4H are

very clever writers and engaged in

writing Diary entries and procedures

relating to our novel study. In Mathematics we have been

working on our multiplication skills

through times tables songs and

games, our favourite game being the

Poison Number. We also worked on

our measuring skills using rulers and

tape measures. We estimated and

then measured our room and parts

of our bodies recording in metres,

centimetres and millimetres. There

are several budding artists in our class. During the term we

produced lots of lovely art pieces which

include character portraits, gargoyles,

Imaengine app creatures and Brolgas. We

have proudly displayed them in our

classroom and the corridor. Ben visiting

from France has

been volunteering in

our room for the last few weeks. He

has been helping the students with

their reading and writing. We will miss

him when he returns to France next

term. Have a safe and enjoyable

holiday and rest up ready for another

busy term 3/4H!

5/6T CLASS NEWS It has been a very busy term for 5/6T. Students have been

engaged in a number of activities including, gymnastics,

athletics and cross country carnivals, public speaking

competitions, the Armidale Eisteddfod and various

representative sporting teams.

On top of all these extra-curricula activities there has been

all the hard work the students have been doing in class.

5/6T students have recently been looking closely at two

books in class. Beginning with ‘Mirror’ by Genie Baker we

were able to compare and contrast the lives of children

living in Australia and Morocco. This was then expanded to

look at other ways of living and cultural beliefs that

students had a personal interest in researching. 5/6T have

then taken particular interest in reading ‘My Place’ by

Nadia Wheatley and discussing how and why certain

changes have occurred over the past 200 years. We looked

at the reasons immigrants came to Australia and what they

added to our society and the different types of services

that were in need throughout history. 5/6T have created

their own pages to add to a class ‘My Place’ book which is

linked to where we live and how it has changed over

time. The students were particularly interested in the

opportunity to quiz Mr Widders and myself about the

changes we recall from our childhood in Armidale and the

opportunity to research old photos of Armidale and the

neighbourhoods in which students now live.

Congratulations to all the students for taking the

opportunity to participate in so many different aspects of

school life this term.
