Boss Female Washer Seal Fittings

Boss female washer seal fittings are available in plated steel and/or malleable iron in sizes 3/8"through 6". For further information see page 59.

Boss Clamps

180° Steam Gauge Siphon

180° steam gauge siphon is available in red brass pipe in ¼". In order to prevent live steamfrom entering a pressure gauge bourdon tube a siphon filled with water should be installedbetween the gauge and the process line. For further information see page 180.

Steam Quick Disconnect CouplingsDesigned exclusively for steam applications, the socket and plug are solid brass with stainless steel springs and locking balls.The socket has a large plated steel sleeve especially designed for easier gripping with gloves. Boss Coupling SystemPurpose: Boss Couplings supply a convenient threadedfitting to connect two lengths of hose, or a single length to amale or female threaded (NPT) outlet.

Features: The spud part of the coupling serves as one half ofthe connection and is usually fixed to the equipment. Thestem part that is clamped to the hose is the other half. Thetwo halves are connected or disconnected by rotating thewing nut onto the spud. When connected they achieve amechanical, as well as, a pressure seal.

Services: Boss Couplings are all-purpose hose couplings,universally recommended for steam hose connections. Theyare also widely used for air, water, fluid petroleum, chemicalsand liquid petroleum gas up to 1" ID. Boss Couplings can beapplied to many types of rubber, synthetic, plastic, metallic orsemi-metallic hose. Consult the factory for specific mediacapabilities.

Boss Ground Joint Seal

Boss couplings and the steam quick disconnects on page 57are the only Dixon couplings recommended for steam service.

Positive Metal-to-Polymer Seal

• A leakproof seal is formed when the metal head of the stemmakes contact with the patented polymer seat in the spud.

• The non-metallic polymer seat resists most chemicals foundin manufacturing facilities.

• Recommended for steam service up to 450°F• Easy to seal• Works with existing ground joint fittings• Plated steel and/or malleable iron• Use with Boss clamps found on pages 63 and 64.

• The bolts used in the Boss interlocking clamps are not standard bolts. They vary from standard bolts in their length,diameter, overall thread length and material hardness. These bolts can be retorqued, but it is not recommended thatthe bolts or clamps be reused, as they are designed for a single bend only. Dixon recommends using only factory suppliedreplacement bolts.

• Torque values for clamps are based on dry bolts. The use of lubricant on bolts will adversely effect clamp performance.• See page 444 for Fraction to Decimal conversion chart.• Do not lubricate nuts and bolts.• Recommended torque rating in ft. lbs.
