His wife, the Rani and their three-year-old son, Shailadhish, were forced to go into hiding with a few loyal nobles. The Rani decided to live in a village called Parashar in the Trikoot Hill Range while her son Shailadhish was taken to a Brahmin’s house in Nagda for his own safety. The nobles did not tell the Brahmin who he really was. So the boy grew up as a servant. They called him Bappa.

“Bappa, every morning you will have to take my cattle to the hills to graze,” the Brahmin instructed the boy.

“Yes sir,” Bappa would reply.
