COMRADES 2015

The 2015 Comrades slogan is - 'BE PART OF IT - BAMBA IQHAZA'.

The 90th edition of the race will be run on SUNDAY, MAY 31, 2015. The 'Up Run" will start at the

Durban City Hall at 05:30 and end at 17:30 at the Oval Cricket Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, covering a

distance of 87km.

Opening date for 2015 Comrades entries is 01 September, 2014. The entry period will close on November

30, 2014, OR as soon as the special entry cap of 23 000 has been reached.

Entry fee for local athletes: R380.00

Early bird entry fee for South African runners is R350.00 if the entry is received before 30 September, 2014.

The Substitution window period will be from 01 - 21 April, 2015.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Qualifying for the 2015 Comrades will be applicable from 01 August 2014 to 04 May 2015.

Please note that YOU CANNOT USE THIS YEARS COMRADES MARATHON TIME AS AN

AUTOMATIC QUALIFIER FOR THE 2015 RACE.

In a first for South African road running, R1,5-million is up for grabs to the first man and woman

respectively who break the current male and female up-run records.

A new sponsor has come on board, CMA are proud to announce that Old Mutual have agreed to sponsor the

event for 3 years.

If you know of any runner that wants to take part next year and they are not on my email database, please

print this set of Snippets and give them a copy.

Members that are unable to enter Comrades on line, and are going to post their entries to Comrades,

please bring your entry and monies to the office and I will liaise with Comrades with regards these

entries – Linda.

BOKSBURG ATHLETIC CLUB MEMBER SHINING IN THE U.S.A.

Michael Pienaar, a freshman at South Alabama University in the USA, has

been turning in some excellent performances.

After running 4:17.46 for the mile and 8:19.32 for 3000 metres indoors,

he finished third in the 5000 m at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor

Championships, running 14:45.81.

When the outdoor season started, he clocked 3:48.91 for 1500 m and

then won the gold medal in this event at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor

Championships in 3:49.93.

He won two more medals at the same meeting, silver in the 10000 m

(31:20.79) and bronze in the 5000 m (15:08.43).

Well done Michael.

STEVE’S TUESDAY NIGHT TRACK SESSION IS NOW AT P.G. PARK

All members (especially our new members) are invited to Steve’s Tuesday Night Track Session. The

session starts at 18:00 and is normally about 45 minutes long. Please ensure you get to P.G. Park (Prince

George Park – in the middle of town) at least 15 minutes before so that you can warm up before the session

starts. Track training will continue at P.G. Park until the upgrade of the stadium tartan track is complete.

The Weekly Snowball is still running and members have to be in the Pub to

be eligible to claim the Snowball should your name be drawn out of the hat.

This week Werner van der Berg and Dudu Sebidi missed out on winning the

Snowball.

I qualified at UCT in 2011 and have spent the last 3 years working in Johannesburg. I have set up my own

alongside Leigh Ingle (Sunphysio) at 676 Trichardts Road, Beyers Park. I have experience working with

chronic disease, sports injuries, orthopaedic rehabilitation and general wellness. And a handful of

comrades runners too!!

TAKKIE DRIVE

I was wondering if you could help us with something, my twins will be hosting a “takkie drive” at their

birthday party in September – we are collecting takkies and running shoes, new or old, any size or colour for

charity. Our aim is to get at least 100 pairs of shoes, but hope to get to 200 by the 24th

September.

People can drop it off at the club and I can collect or just call me and we can arrange to collect.
