COMMERCIAL KITCHEN APPLICANCES AND REFRIGERATION Recreational facilities with canteens or foodservice operations can get incentives by purchasing ENERGY STAR-qualified commercial fryers and steam cookers. Incentives are also available for energy efficient upgrades to refrigeration equipment. BOILERS A high efficiency condensing or near-condensing natural gas boiler can provide annual energy savings of up to 30 per cent, compared to electricity, propane, or fuel oil space and water heating. In addition to reducing heating costs, energy efficient natural gas boilers increase occupant comfort by providing more uniform building temperatures. POWER SMART TIPS Manitoba Hydro’s Energy Efficiency Guide for Municipal Recreation Facilities offers many invaluable tips to help your facility save energy and money. This guide can be found online at hydro.mb.ca/psfb. One such tip found in the guide is to know when your meter is read. Knowing this information can save you demand charges for an entire month. For example, if you start your ice plant on September 15 and your meter is read on September 17, you will be charged the full demand charge for the billing period ending September 17, even though you only used the ice plant for two days. If you waited until after the meter was read on September 17 and then started your ice plant, you would save one full month’s demand charge. If you were operating a 60-horsepower ice plant, you could save over $400 in demand charges by waiting two days to start the compressor. Find out when your meter will be read by contacting your local Manitoba Hydro customer service office. CUSTOM MEASURES Save on electricity and natural gas usage with measures that are custom-designed for your facility. Successful past projects include ice plant heat recovery for shower and flood water, low-emissivity ceilings, brine pump cycling, floating head pressure controls and raised suction pressures, oversized condensers, high efficiency compressors, and many more. FINANCING Finance many of these energy-saving upgrades with convenient and affordable options from PAYS (Pay As You Save) Financing. You “Pay As You Save” because your monthly payment for your upgrade, which appears on your monthly energy bill, is less than the estimated energy savings it generates. Eligible upgrades include, but are not limited to: • lighting; • heating and ventilation equipment; • insulation; • heating system retrofits; • custom measures. INSULATION By having your roof and walls insulated to Power Smart levels, you can qualify for incentives, reduce energy costs, and extend the life of your recreational facility. GEOTHERMAL HEAT PUMPS Cut electric heating, cooling, and water heating costs with an environmentally friendly geothermal heat pump. Geothermal heat pump systems can be ideal for recreational facilities with lots of available land area for installing a ground loop. If there is significant potential for savings at your facility, an energy specialist may schedule an on-site visit to get you started with the program application process.

FINANCIAL INCENTIVESBy participating in Power Smart programs, you may be eligible for financial incentives to help offset the cost of equipment upgrades. Recent increases to many incentives have made energy efficiency upgrades more affordable than ever before.

Programs offering incentives are outlined in this brochure. For current information on incentives, visit hydro.mb.ca/psfb. Take advantage of multiple incentives to maximize your energy savings.

Note: Most incentives require pre-approval. Read the eligibility requirements and application process for each incentive before you purchase equipment, materials, or start your project.

FREE WATER AND ENERGY SAVER DEVICESGet free energy efficient plumbing devices for your facility and reduce your water and energy bills.

If your facility has a canteen or foodservice operation, we offer the following at no cost to you:

• replacement of existing pre-rinse spray valves (1.24 US gallons per minute or greater) with energy efficient valves (0.65 US gallons per minute), by a qualified contractor;

• energy efficient kitchen aerators (1.5 US gallons per minute).

For your facility washrooms and change rooms, we offer the following free devices:

• energy efficient showerheads (1.5 US gallons per minute);

• energy efficient bathroom faucet aerators (1.5 US gallons per minute).

LIGHTINGRecent changes to eligibility requirements mean more recreational facilities than ever before qualify for incentives. If your facility operates lighting for 1,000 hours per year or more, you may qualify for increased and/or new incentives for LED, T8, and T5 lamps and fixtures, outdoor lighting, sensors, controls, and more.

CO2 SENSORSCO2 sensors save energy by supplying just the right amount of ventilation air for occupant needs, which avoids unnecessary heating of outside, unconditioned air. These sensors are ideal for recreational facilities that have highly variable levels of occupancy. Recently, incentives for CO2 sensors have more than doubled.

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) and Manitoba Hydro are working together to help municipal recreation facilities save money through energy efficiency, leading to an even greater enjoyment of these facilities across the province. If you operate a recreational facility in Manitoba, Power Smart* programs can help you save money.

By participating in Power Smart programs, you can receive incentives and financing to upgrade your facility and lower your energy usage, which will, in turn, lower your energy bill.

HOW TO GET STARTED Manitoba Hydro offers free energy evaluations to determine where your facility could reduce its energy use.

To get your evaluation:

1. Complete a Recreation Facility Survey, which can be found online at hydro.mb.ca/psfb, or you can request to have it mailed to you by phoning 204-360-3676 (in Winnipeg) or 1-888-624-9376 (toll free) or emailing [email protected].

2. Send your completed survey to: Manitoba Hydro Marketing Programs Department 360 Portage Avenue (7) Winnipeg, MB R3C 0G8

Power Smart staff will review your survey, analyze historical billing information, and provide a survey report that identifies opportunities for savings and compares your energy usage to similar Manitoba facilities.
