The module core design wasdeveloped in the early 80’s and hasover 15 years service experience,with the housing material changingin the early 90’s.
The modular single columnpolymeric surge arrester design isavailable up to 132kV systems.
The essential feature of the internalpatented construction is thepermanent homogenous resin andglass fibre bond over the completeinsulated service of the ZnOelements. The arrester module hasan inherently high mechanicalstrength and provides a uniformdielectric at the insulated surface ofthe ZnO elements.
Routine tests are carried out to showthat the manufacturing conforms tothe current International standard.

The series parallel surge arresterwas developed in the late 80’s. Wehave over 12 years serviceexperience in over 60 countries.
The series parallel constructioncomprises individual surge arrestermodules rated between 30 and 45kVinterconnected by means of coronafree silicon aluminium alloy plates.
Each surge arrester module iscompletely impervious to theingress of moisture and utilises thehigh mechanical strength propertiesof the ZnO varistor bonded by curedresin impregnated glass fibre.
The external geometry and materialsprovide an arrester that is a virtuallyperfectly graded voltage field suchthat no grading ring is required.
The overall diameter of the seriesparallel arrester has been calculatedto reduce the radial field stress to aminimum, even under adverseenvironmental conditions.
The electrostatic capacitancecoupling between each siliconaluminium interconnection providesan even voltage field across thesurface of the silicon housing.
This arrangement has been provenunder the severest of monitorednatural pollution conditions (NGC).
The very large surface area allowsthis design to maintain thermalequilibrium after lightning orswitching duty.
The seismic performance of 500kVarrester has been proven in twoleading test facilities. BonnevillePower USA performed at PortlandState University and NEL EastKilbride UK. Test performed andpassed to IEEE 693 Annex K and theIEEE Recommended Practice forSeismic Design of Substations.
Routine tests are carried out to showthat the manufacturing conforms tothe current International standard.

The PSRA & B surge arresters areavailable for applications for up to220kV systems.
Both designs utilise the samehousing construction, which is aresin and glass fibre pultruded tubeand aluminium flanges.
High cantilever mechanical strengthis achieved on this design with theinternal assembly similar to that ofthe porcelain.
The design has been tested to IECand demonstrated a 63kA pressurerelief performance.
Routine tests are carried out to showthat the manufacturing conforms tothe current International standard.

Porcelain surge arresters areavailable for applications up to400kV systems.
Porcelain housing designs havebeen used by us for over 60 years.
From 1936 we produced porcelainsurge arresters to the gappedsilicone carbide pattern and since1980 we have produced arresters tothe gapless ZnO design.
The design consists of a porcelainhousing which conforms to IEC-815with an Aero Dynamic shed profile.
The varistors, spacers and locatingrings are assembled undercompression with pressure reliefdiaphragms at either end, The airvoid is evacuated and replaced withdry air, then sealed.
All arrester designs have beenproved by Type Testing IEC60099-4.
Routine tests are carried out to showthat the manufacturing conforms tothe current International standard.
