MANY THANKS TO MR EMMANUEL GBEDEMAH
Many thanks to all those who submitted an entry and congratulations to all the new members of the Blueprint Team.
Diwali CelebrationDiwali, or the ‘Festival of Lights,’ is
a time when millions of Hindus around the world celebrate the victory of good over evil and when light destroys the darkness. On 2 November 2017, The
Roman Ridge School commemorated Diwali alongside our growing Indian community, celebrating the diversity and vibrancy of Indian culture. As the clock hit 3pm, everyone sat down, all anxious to know what would unfold.
Beautiful decorations filled the T-Block and the colours of the Indian flag
engulfed us. The ball was set rolling with a classical Indian dance, making the already boisterous audience even
more energetic and the beautiful dresses left everyone dazzled.
This was followed by the speeches from the Honourable Guests,
including our very own Principal Mrs. Valerie Mainoo, Mrs. Cheema
(President, Indian Women's Association), Mr. Thakker (President,
Indian Association Ghana) and the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana,
His Excellency Birinder Singh Yadav. The ceremonial candles
were lit and gifts were presented to the Special Guests from the TRRS
parent volunteers. Next, we enjoyed an educational skit on the history of Diwali. The excitement was clear on the faces of both young and old as
the show went on.
“I think that Diwali is celebrated with a lot more vibrancy and energy over here than in India!” exclaimed His Excellency. “The performances were spectacular and
I think that this was not only a really good way of celebrating this extraordinary festival but this also gives our children a sense of responsibility and a lot of
confidence and experience, which will likely help them in future.” A big thank you to the Parent Volunteers and Teachers who put the performances together. After this year’s successful event, we look forward to what the students have in store
for us next year. We are proud of our diversity as a school and that we are able to learn about other cultures. Through such events, we hope to continue spreading a message of peace and tolerance widely throughout our community. Happy Diwali!
ISSAG Swimming & Volleyball
TRRS remains an active participant in
sporting activities and events hosted by
the International Schools Sports
Association of Ghana (ISSAG). In fact,
TRRS is currently serving as the
Secretariat for ISSAG, organising all
ISSAG activities for the next 3 years! On
Saturday 11th November 2017 at TIS,
TRRS students competed in the annual
Swimming and Volleyball
competitions. For Volleyball, the school
put forward two strong teams for the
Boys and Girls divisions, displaying
great team spirit and a good overall
performance.
The TRRS Swim Team were crowned the
champions of the competition, with TRRS
winning Overall Best School! Our Boys'
Captain, Abeiku Jackson, was awarded
the Boys Champion Trophy and our Girls'
Captain Ruth Quashie brought home a
collection of Silver and Bronze medals. A
lot of time is invested to prepare our
teams for the competition and we are
grateful for the support of our coaches. It's
a lot of hard work, but we're ultimately
proud of the outcome! Congratulations to
all participants for a great job done! We
hope to see you again in future events.
Kiddabest Under 12 Tournament at GIS
On Saturday 4th November, The Roman Ridge School took part the Kiddabest Under 12 Football and Basketball Tournament, hosted by GIS. Our Boys Team, led by Captain Amer Mahama put forward a great performance and displayed great teamwork on the field and court! Led by Captain Davina Adjei, our Girls
Team went on to win trophies for Overall Best in Soccer & Overall Best in Basketball - AMAZING! Congratulations to all who participated in the event and
a big thank you to our coaches, parents and teachers for their support.
