ESSAY TOPIC-“Would you choose to travel by bus or train for a long overnight journey ? Give reasons for our choice. ”

India has a mixed population which comprises of various economic categories starting from rich businessmen to poor street beggars. So, based on that, India has all modes of transportation. The rich people prefers travelling by plane, the middleclass has no choice rather than trains and buses whereas the beggars dream of trains.

Buses are generally for short travelling purpose. Some prefer for long journeys in VOLVO buses but basically they are meant for short journeys. They are not very cheap because most of them are governed by private owners. The government owned re not comfortable for long journeys. So, the middle class prefers busses for short journeys only.

Trains with sleeper compartments are the first choice of the middle class category. Trains are cheap for long journeys. They are safe and maximum of them are secured with armed RPF forces. In vacation time the trains are overbooked and lacks proper sanitation. The panty cars are also not clean enough to ensure disease free good quality food. Sometimes, notorious activities like pick-pocket and snatching away ornaments takes place. But in overall, trains are lot safer than buses in general. The A.C compartments are very clean and safe for a long 4 to 5 days journey. So, during vacations the risks in travelling are trains minimum than buses.

The most important feature in buses which lacks in trains for publics is that buses are from destination to destination. Whereas trains cannot go into the root of the passengers’ destination. Trains are fast and safe but passenger will have to interchange few trains and finally reach their desired destination. Buses are not safe comparing with trains. Women are molested in buses rather than in trains. Furious and rash driving also leads to bus accidents. Lewd comments are also passed on to the passengers. So, trains are lot more safer than buses for women and children. Trains are sometimes called -“The Artery Of India” because it connects one part of India with another part. But buses are called-“The Creeks Of India” as they connect a main city with villages and slums.

Trains are safer and comfortable than buses. One will have to stay freeze inside a bus whereas trains are much spacious. Travelling in a bus for a long 8 to 10 hours will surely ache our body muscles. Ironically in trains, the compartments are more spacious with toilet facility. Trains are very much faster than the buses and in maximum cases they are on time.

If I would be planning for a vacation then I would prefer to have a train journey than a bus journey if it is an overnight one. The journey in a train is more peaceful than a bus.

Though buses are from destination to destination, they lack comfort and safety in the Indian subcontinent. Trains are the most reliable companion for any overnight journey or for a vacation.
