Introductions
• Move to new group based on the color of your card
• Introduce yourself• Complete Group sheet (Leave your
group name blank for now, put your names on the lines – any order)
Introductions
• Instructor – Dr. Kathy Conway• Chair of the Department of
Elementary, Early, and Special Education – Dr. Deb Lo
Welcome – get to know your group• Make nametag
• Front name (large)• Back
• Upper Left corner – Major • Upper Right corner – Concentration if your Major
is Elementary (undecided ok)• Lower left corner – Year in the university
(freshman, sophomore, etc.)• Lower right corner – DRAW Something you did
during the break• File Folder (first & last names on tab)
Getting to know each other• Share the information on the back of
your Nametag (Make sure that each person gets a chance to share.)
• Discuss what you have in common and how you are different.
• On the back of your “Group members” sheet, make 2 lists (how you are alike//how you are different.)
• Special needs – please share with me.
Thinking Back---
• Think back to Kindergarten. In what ways are you still the same? How have you changed?
• Turn half sheet with Group Members over when everybody has had a chance to share.
Make a “Date”
• You will need something to write with.• You will make a date for:
• 3:00, • 6:00, and • 9:00
• You can only make a date if you are both available at that time.
• Write down your name on your date’s paper and have them write their name on your paper at the same time.
• If you can’t find a date for a certain time, come to the front of the room.

• Person B – explain what this means to you.
• Person C & D – also share your ideas.
Group Activity 2: Some quotes about teach ing• Person B – Read #1 (Person to your right -
explain what it means to you)• Person C – Read #2 (Person to your right -
explain what it means to you)• Person D – Read #3 (Person to your right -
explain what it means to you)• Person A – Read #4 (Person to your right -
explain what it means to you)• Person B – Read #5 (Person to your right -
explain what it means to you)• Everybody – Put a * by the one(s) that are
important to you. Share with your group.
Group Activity 3: Bill Ayers comments about why he taught kindergarten.You will do this Activity with your 3:00
date.1. 1st Person – Read Paragraph 12. 2nd Person – Read Paragraph 23. 2nd Person– Read paragraph 34. Share – Do you have any experiences that
connect to these ideas? (Things you have observed, people you know, or personal experiences.)
5. Thank your date and return to your home group when you finish.
