I you are dreading the thought o decorating

your childs room, then ret not! Help isat hand as we show you easy ways to ensurethat your little champion or princess gets aroom o their dreams, with minimum uss.

    Colour coded

Remember, its a childs room! So, steerclear o serious or drab shades andno, bright doesnt mean the jarringorange either. Choose pleasant hueslike sunshine yellows, pretty pinks,

pastel oranges, baby blues, earthygreens and riendly browns to keepthe room not just cheerul but alsocozy. Dont go crazy with colours asan overdose can numb the senses.

Instead, pick two colours and workaround that right rom the walls tothe bedspreads.

    Themes galore

Who knows your child better than you?

Football an, cricket crazy, gaga over animals,Barbie babe or princess passionate keepit simple yet easy to accomplish. Dont go or

elaborate accessories as the room is meant or thechild to be ree and not cramped due to such

    of

    Childrens bedrooms have now transformed

from mere living spaces to a whole new

world. Bright and cheerful, its a part of their

personality, defning their individualistic quirksand playing an integral part in their growing

years. From princess bean bag to Arsenal

ags right down to cutesy knickknacks,

    decorating your childs bedroom hasnt

    been this fun, ever!

needless restrictions. Minimalistic is the way to goand pick artiacts or memorabilia careully to match

    with your little ones passion.

Cartoons, any day!Whats a childs room without cartoons? Theseincredibly lovable and vivacious beings come alive

to guide your child through the wonderul yearso childhood. Right rom Popeye the Sailor to theever popular Tom and Jerry or Batman and Ben10 or the older children cartoons capture theirimagination with their simple charm.

Customized urnitureI its a childs room, the urniture has to becustomized to suit their needs. Cots now come inmyriad shapes and orms, sometimes in elaborate

designs to give your childs room a whole new

transormation. A study table should be simpleyet neat to induce your child to get into thelearning mode.

Saety rstSaety is an important aspect, especially i it isa childs room. Ensure that the cushions andany other piece o urniture dont have harmulelements. The wall paint should be non-toxic and

the handles on the closet and doors should becustomized with happy designs and devoid o sharp

edges. The lighting should be just right avoidextremely bright lights because this can make thechild aggressive.

Clean it quickChildren are generally messy and it is an integralpart o their growing up stage. So, opt or wall paint

which is easy to clean. The same rule applies to the

urniture as well. Children tend to spill and an easy-to-maintain-the-room approach would make sure

that you dont tear your hair in rustration everytime your child splashes paint on the wall or foor.

A simple way is not to have anything in the roomwhich you would regret being stained or broken.

Storage spaceToys, activity books, crayons there are a lot othings which your little one has to put away. Ensurethat there is enough storage space in the room orall their knickknacks. A bookshel, toy box, reading

corner, a cabinet or two, wardrobe and shoe rack arequite vital or a clean room. The cabinets should be

within reach to minimize accidents. Despite beinga childs room, it has to be neat and organized. So,designate space or each o the elements rom toys

to books and make sure that your child places them

where they should be, hence keeping the room tidy.

    Creative Corner

A childs room is an area to unleash theircreativity. Ensure that there is a corner in the

room where your child can do so, without theear o being scolded. A play pen is one areawhere your children can indulge in their fightso antasy to a araway kingdom while playing withtheir toys. Or, i your child loves to scribble on thewalls (and, most children do), earmark one wallor this purpose to serve as their space to let their

artistic streak fow. I a scribble on the wall cantbe cleaned, just put a picture rame over that areaand voila! You have a priceless piece o art doneby your dear child.

    22 | JULY 2013

    Raj Kumar Gupta, director

    of the critically acclaimed

Aamir (2008) and No one KilledJessica (2011) fails to stir the box

    ofce with his newest venture

    Ghanchakkar starring unlikely

    duo Emraan Hashmi and Vidya

Balan. While the lm is as much

    about marital problems as about

a bank heist booty gone missing,

the only thing that salvages an

    erratic script and half-baked

    characterization is the generous

dose of black comedy along thelines of Jane Bhi Do Yaaron or Is

    Raat Ki Koi Subah Nahi.

    Sanju (Hashmi) a reluctant

robber agrees to pull off a bank

    heist with two rogues Pundit

(Sharma) and Idris (Das) to please

    his fashion-obsessive, boisterous

    Punjabi wife Neetu (Vidya) who

wants money to live a better life.

After the robbery, the trio decides

to lie low for three months and

let Sanju hide the money. Things

take a turn when Sanju loses

    his memory after an accident

and cannot remember where hestashed the loot.

True to its name, the lm

    tries to portray each characters

    quirkiness from Neetus

    outrageous sense of fashion to

    Sanjus somnolent memory loss

    and Pundit and Idris comic-evil

    personas. The lms redemption

lies in the way it elicits fun in

    the most unlikely situations. The

robbers wear paper masks ofAmitabh Bacchan, Dharmendra

and Utpal Dutt to loot the bank,

Idris and Sanju discuss TV models

on the phone at a crucial moment

in the plot; from Neetus cooking

    to phone-calls from Sanjus mom

and the vegetable man on the

    train, the domestic drama that

ensues as Pundit and Das shift

into Sanjus house is a laugh riot

    at times and downright insipid

    at others.

    With side-splitting

    performances from Rajesh

Sharma and Namit Das, onewonders how much better the

lm would have fared had the

    gap between scripting and lming

    been effectively bridged. The

rst half is denitely tighter and

racier while the lm slumps in

the second half and jolts to a halt

    with an abrupt ending. Although

the climax is intended to have the

audience linger in the murky aura

of black comedy, what remains isa sense of suspicion that in spite

    of strong lead performances and

    supporting roles, maybe the movie

didnt get its act right this time.

The world is at the mercy

    of an apocalyptic takeover by

zombies. A savage bite by theseabominable creatures and you

    have seconds left before you

    turn into the undead yourself.

    An astounding proliferation that

    goes far beyond human control

    causes the United Nations to

    summon Gerry Lane (Pitt), an

    ex-UN employee who embarks

on a journey around the world to

determine the root cause of the

    pandemonium.Interspersed with racy action

    sequences, this loose adaptation

of the highly popular Max Brooks

novel by the same name fares well

    as an edge-of-the-seat thriller,

    barring a few glaringly predictable

    moments. Complete with crows

feet and bags under his eyes Brad

Pitt looks every bit his age and

essays the role with his usual

aplomb. He is the larger than

    life, one-dimensional hero who

escapes the wrath of the zombies

    numerous times and survives a

deadly plane crash. He must travelalone in his quest to save the

world, as is clearly evident in the

    nale. The minions strictly cannot

    share screen space, neither can

they lend their wit or chivalry.

    With its breathtaking visuals

and well crafted CG the movie

    somehow manages to strike a

    chord with both the zombie-genre

    acionados and others alike.

The scene where the loathsomecreatures pile up against the

    wall that surrounds Jerusalem

threatening to spill inside and the

    ensuing mayhem warrant special

    mention. Amidst the zombie

    rampage and the rapid country

    hopping, the edgling friendship

    between Gerry and the Israeli

    soldier makes for an interesting

    development. In a movie where

    devastation is ubiquitous but

    fails to evoke sympathy, the

    development comes as a welcome

respite but zzles out along the

way.World War Z denitely has its

    moments of technical brilliance.

    Knowledge of its troubled past

could come in the way of forming

a gestalt but to those oblivious,

    the sequences do not necessarily

    betray the several re-shoots.

Hardcore fans of the book might

    want to think twice before

watching the movie as it has

conspicuously strayed away fromthe source. As for the Brad Pitt

    loyalist...hurry!

    & News Letter

Four years have passed since I started to writea topic once a month in my blog ssekar.blogspot.com starting rom January 2009. Ishould say it was eventul and the responses romthe readers and my well-wishers were enthrallingand I went into ecstasy. What I had started asa hobby has ended up in a habit making mecontinue my journey o writing about dierentsubjects that we encounter in everyday lie. Acareul analysis o the happenings around us andmaking midway corrections will bring a changein a person and give him ananda or bliss.

Here I am pleased to exchange my thoughts onthe word I in a poetic orm.

    i i i, ecuse i ia yu e yu ecuse yu e yuTe i yu e.but i i i, ecuse yu e yua yu e yu ecuse i iTe i t yue tbut we e t.

The alphabet I when spelt makes you get intoagankara (ego) mode and induces you into aeeling that you (reers to I) are great and cansurmount any obstacles that you come acrossin your daily mundane lie. In reality, it is that

supreme power or the bagawan or the almightythat helps us to surmount any diculty that we

are posed with at all times. Until this realizationsets in to your mind, you will be an ignoranthuman being. I you have good thoughts youwill attract good things and i you have diseasedthought you will attract disease. Thinking o godand chanting the mantra Om will keep us ingood stead at all times as we have the protectiono the almighty.

An underlying philosophy comes to my mindwhile I am writing this page. It is interesting and

thought provoking as it conveys the truth andbrings out the act o lie. It goes like this:-

The rain it raineth on the just and also on theunjust ella but chiefy on the just because the

    unjust steals the justs Umbrella.

I we understand this, we become realized soulsand start appreciating what is happening to usincluding the twists and the turns o everydaylie that we encounter. We should bear in mind

that at any cost we should not give up oureorts in ullling our goals and aspirations. Weshould not quit until we succeed. I am remindedo a Poem, which I am pleased to share witheveryone.

    Black Box:

This is a device used to assist investigation intoaircrat accidents. These are lone survivors inmost o the accidents. Black box has two parts,a cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and a fightdata recorder (FDR). These recorders are ullyautomatic with memory that would store hourso pilot voice and instrument readings up to themoment o any accident. It automatically erasesold records to provide space or resh entry. Most

o the black boxes use solid state memory boardsthat are much reliable than magnetic tapes.

Cockpit voice recorders (CVRs)and Flight datarecorders (FDRs) in commercial airplanescontinuously record inormation and can beimmensely helpul to determine the causeo a crash. The deepest a fight recorder hasbeen recovered was the case o South AricanAirways Flight 295, where the cockpit voicerecorder was recovered 16,000 eet (4,900 m)

under the ocean. However, there are many caseswhere recovered recorders did not denitivelyidentiy the cause o a crash. Recorders may berecovered, but too damaged to read or haveblanks.

All the microphones in the cockpit areconnected to the CVR where the recordingsare digitized and stored. The FDR registersinormation about speed, altitude direction andother relevant details during fight. Data romthe CVR and FDR is stored on stacked memoryboards inside the crash-survivable memory unit(CSMU). These memory boards are insulatedand protected by three layers o materials in theCSMU in a solid state black box.

All the data collected by the airplanes sensorsis sent to the fight data acquisition unit at theront o the aircrat. The fight data acquisitionunit is the middle manager o the entire datarecording process. It takes inormation romsensors and sends it to the black box.

Black boxes are powered by one o two powergenerators that draw power rom planesengines.

Black box is usually installed at the tail o theplane to increase their chances o survival.Though called black box it is usually painted inbright orange or yellow.

WHATI your otherwise lovely and cosy home is shorton space then kitchenettes can be the perectsolution that you are looking or. These space

saving additions are the miniature replicaso their much larger siblings but kitchenettes canbe every bit as useul as kitchens.

WHYThe main advantage o a kitchenette is that itallows you to carry on all your culinary unctionswithout engulng precious square eet area. They are particularly recommended or houses, studio apartments, basement or attic fats, condominiums and mezzanine (usually above

    garage) houses.

For the mother in you, kitchenettes can be agreat way o involving your tweens and teens incooking activities. A kitchenette is comparativelysaer because o the small area and thus makes iteasy or you to keep an eye on the little ones asthey carry out their culinary experiments.

WHEREI you entertain small groups on a regular basis

or indulge in inormal dos with your gal palsthen it makes sense to have a kitchenette in acomortable corner o the house where you holdthe soirees, even i you have a large kitchen anda larger house. With such an arrangement youcan whip up scrumptious snacks and rereshingbrews while chatting with your guests instead obeing holed up in the kitchen and missing outon all the un.

Also, i you are a work rom home proessional

then it makes sense to have a tiny kitchenettenear your work area so you dont have tokeep rushing back and orth every time youeel like having a cup o coee or some lightrereshments.

HOWOnce you decide on getting a mini kitchenyou can either look at the readymade modelsavailable in interior stores or have a contractor

build everything rom scratch and install acustom built kitchenette. Have it painted inbright and unique hues to distinguish thearea rom the rest o the house and to give it acharacter o its own.

The basics required to set upa kitchenette include: A mini refrigerator A small cooking range/induction stoves A mini microwave

A simple sink A couple of small wall cabinets Counter space

You can upgrade on these basics as per yourneeds. Add eatures, alter sizes and increase thecomponents as required. Stock up on necessitiesand replenish depleted items once a week.

Scale down smartly and add an extra dimensionto your abode: invest in a swanky kitchenette.
