white turban, wearing white achkan and white dhoti was born on this auspicious day. He was none other thanDr. Sarva Palli Radhakrishnan-a philosopher, a torch bearer, a visionary and a great teacher. In the realm ofpolitics he had a long stint of Vice Presidentship of India (practically for Ten years) followed by the highestoffice of President of the Indian Republic. By virtue of his office he became the first citizen of India. Dr. S.R.was the first Vice President and also the first recipient of the highest award of the Indian soil (HkkjrHkwfe)-theBharat Ratna. In his book titled ‘An idealistic view of life’ Dr. S.R. has dwelt at length as to how to make theentire gamut of life memorable by adopting positive altitude. His words “Earliest we are able to understandthe feelings of others, better it would be for the entire world” speak volume. This is the sum and substanceof a saying in Sanskrit: vkReu% çfrdwykfu ijs"kka u lekpsjr~ and ijLija Hkko;Ur% Js;e~ (ñ xhrk) In his other book titled‘Indian philosophy’ the philosopher, writer, teacher very ably dealt with the various schools of thought aspropounded by different Philosophers. But no philosophy of any other country or culture can match the Hkkjrh;n'kZu which has it's main motto and deep rooted belief in loZs HkoUrq lqf[kuk%] losZ lUrq fujke;k%A losZ Hkækf.k i';Urq ekdf'pn~ nq%[k Hkkx Hkosr~AA meaning thereby 'let every body live in peace, let every one be without any disease, letnoble thoghts come to every person, let no one suffer (on any account).

On this pious day every Indian fondly remembers this noble soul , a torch-bearer and a path finder.Truly, as a mark of respect this day is dedicated to the great luminary as Teacher’s Day (f'k{kd fnol)+ Ateacher is always considered on a very high pedestal in the Indian culture:

Er. Visveswariya was born on Sept. 15. A civil engineer by profession, he was the mastermind tobuild Krishna Sagar Dam in Mysore. He adorned the seat of Deewan (Prime Minister) of the State andgifted Mysore University in addition to other institutions to the state. Kaiser-i-Hind of the British Govt., hewas awarded Bharat Ratna by the Govt of India. As per the saying of our scriptures those~ 'kjn% 'kre~ (Letus live for 100 years), this teacher cum engineer had said “it is better to work out than rust out”. With thisspirit he lived for 101 years.

Vanmahotsav (tree plantation) was celebrated inthe campus of Hirapur UGUP School near a historicalshrine of prehistoric age of 64 Yoginis. 154 schoolchildren and 7 teachers of the school alongwithmembers of main branch participated. 32 treespecies of medicinal, ornamental, fragrant sweetsmelling plants including some valuable timberspecies were planted. grand morning rally on 5th June 2011. The mainobjective of the project was to spread the message

'Save water for posterity'. About 120 personsespecially the morning walkers joined thisprogramme. Narrating the data/statistics from theFAO, Dr. DRC Bakhetia, retired Professor of PAU,Ludhiana explained that 70% of the earth comprisesof water and hence it is called as “Blue Planet”.Out of this total water, only 2.5% is fresh water andthe remaining 97.5% is bound with sea/oceans andis saline or salty in nature. Of the 2.5% fresh water,only 0.3% is available from rivers, lakes, and in thesoil and shallow aquifers which can be readily used;30.8% is groundwater whereas the rest (68.9%) isbound with distant glaciers, ice sheets/bodies,mountains and the places that can hardly beaccessed. Hence, water is the most precious naturalresource . The Elixir of Life or “Jal Hee JeevanHai”. Let us, therefore, resolve to save water throughits judicious and need-based use in our daily life.Also, rainwater harvesting is equally important andit must be conserved through suitable ways andmeans for re-use in agriculture to enhanceproduction for food security.

Guwahati : A programme of GVCA to achieveits twin objectives of ‘Sanskar’ and ‘Sewa’ was heldin Bishnu Nirmala Bhavan on the eve of 18th June2011. The felicitation of the 10 students who havecompleted their H.S. and H.S.L.C. Exam successfullywith flying colours and two eminent personalities asspeaker Guru and appointed speaker on this occasionwas done. Speaker Guru Shri Guluk ChandraGoswami former Prof. Guwahati University, who hasan immense contribution towards Assamese literature,was the Chief Guest of the evening. More than 40members and other guests were present. The primarypurpose of this programme is to imbibe in the mindsof children the idea of respecting their parents andteachers, whose blessings will enable them to besuccessful in life.Noonmati Sishu Mangal Kendra isan orphanage home. It consists of 19 children, someof the children are homeless and some are down thepoverty line. The Kendra is taking care of theseunfortunate children by providing them with food, shelterand education. Branch took the opportunity to meetthe children with a cause of educating them about theEnvironment Day by planting 20 plants of differentfruits. Shri Rudra Goswami delivered lecture on howplantation is important in today’s world. Branchdistributed the breakfast among the children and alsodonated vegetables, pulses and other needful to theS.M. Kendra.

JAMMU & KASHMIRRampur Gadwal : The central team of BVP

headed by Ashok Jadav, National SecretaryIntegrated Village Development Projectaccompanied by R.K. Mahajan and Dr. N.P.Pushkarna, National Convener visited the villageon 17th June 2011. The village Project Committeereceived them in the village. The state ProjectImplementation Committee, comprised of S.N.Sharma, Chairman and coordinator along with VedParkash Sharma Er. J.C. Sharma Conveners andEr. Gopal Sharma, Co-Convener conducted theteam and showed the works completed as well asongoing. Under Environment programme 1500 plants

were planted during these two years, on vanmahotsav by launching plantation drive on 14thAugust, 2011 by Shri Surjit Singh Slathia, Hon'bleMinister for Industries & Commerce. Thedevelopment works were completed with fundsreleased by Dr. Jindal Trust and central office tothe tune of Rs. 14.50 lacs, out of which Rs 12.31lacs were utilized. The works could be possible dueto hard labour of Bhag Raj, Ram Murti, PraveenKumar, Mohan Lal, Baldev Raj, Kuldeep Raj,Subhash Chander (Sarpanch), Pushpa Devi (NaibSarpanch) and Himmat Kumar etc.

Reasi : Four branches of Distt. namely KalkaMata, Mahadev, Trikuta gramin and Shiv Khori Kotlajointly organized installations cum Parivar Millanceremony on 24.04.2011. The programme wasattended by 11 member’s team of Prant headed byProf. S.C. Anand, National Chairman PraudhSanskar who was also the chief Guest. As manyas 180 members participated in this colourfulfunction which was first of its kind. Six distinguishedpersons of this area were given mementoes for theirexcellent performance in various fields.

Leh : From 23rd to 28th June, 2011, elevenmembers of BVP (7 from Rohtak & 4 from Ludhiana)under the leadership of Chander Sain Jain visitedLeh to participate in the programme of SindhuDarshan Utsav. They visited Govt. High School,Egoo which was constructed by BVP. In this visit,they distributed warm track suits to the schoolchildren, which were sent in the month of Octoberlast year (worth Ten lakh rupees) & were waiting fordistribution to the children & teachers of this school.

First meeting of BVP members & dignitarieswas held on 27th June at Hotel Tibat KitchenRestaurant to honor those who worked hard forrehabilitation of Ladakhi persons after the cloudburst. Chander Sain Jain, National ChairmanVanvasi Sahayata Yojna presided over the meeting& the Chief Guest was Rinchan Tundu Shashtri(State President of Ladakh Kalyan Sangh). Themeeting was conducted by branch cashier, who isalso a National Secretary Yash Paul Gupta. Firstof all Shri Gupta told about the procedure ofconducting branch meeting. After introducing thetourist members of BVP, Chander Sain Jain toldthe audience about the working of BVP. Heappreciated the work done by members of otherorganisations also after the cloud burst in Ladakh


valley on 5th August last year. Ravinder Mittal (Distt.Secretary of Ludhiana Distt.) explained as to howto serve the needy by Sewa. Ashok Gupta (branchPresident Rohtak branch) sang a song on Sewa. Inthis meeting 15 dignitaries were honoured: 4 fromLadakh Kalyan Sangh, 5 from BVP Leh branch, 2from Vidya Bharati and 4 from Himalyan JondoPaldi. Yash Paul Gupta, N. Secretary LadakhRehabilitation said that construction of Egoo HighSchool has been completed & its inauguration willbe done very shortly. He thanked the members ofBVP, all others who worked hard to complete thisProject & also thanked donors who gave financialhelp to complete this project. C.S. Jain announcedthat BVP will start one dispensary anywhere in Lehdistt. Rinchan Tundu Shashtri thanked BVP for theirkind help now & also in future.

The following were elected office bearers ofLeh branch : President Munish Mittal, SecretaryHarpinder Jit Singh & Treasurer Giyalson Tashi.Mittal & Tashi gave Rs. 4800/- towards state &center share of 16 members of Leh branch & Rs2500/- for Vanvasi Sahayata Yojana (total 7300/)to Jain Sahib with the request to handover to theconcerned authority. All the 11 tourist (members ofBVP) gave Rs. 11000/- for Ladakh relief fund tobranch President Munish Mittal. Dinner was hostedby the President of branch Munish Mittal who gotmarried only last month.

It is worthwhile to mention that NationalSecretary General S.K. Wadhwa visited Leh andlaid the foundation stone of School building on 12thOctober 2010. In this Sindhu Darshan programmeDr. Ashok Kukde from Latur (former National Vice-President) also paid a visit to Leh alongwith hiswife. He had every praise for the National OfficeBearers who took up a challenge to complete certaintasks in this area after the cloud burst.

music “Surmai Sandhya” was organized by branchon 12.06.2011. The artists who performed were fromall localites. The motive behind was to introducelocal artists to the public. Nishant Gupta young boyof 25, an upcoming star of Katthak was given anopportunity to perform in Commonwealth Gamesheld in Delhi this year. Nishant is the son of ShriBrijendra Gupta, a senior founder member of branch.The efforts of branch President Smt.
