Senior Pastor Vacancy Announcement

How To Apply

The members of Bethel Baptist Church, East, Detroit, Michigan, having been established for 97

years are prayerfully announcing the call for candidates to apply for the position of Senior

Pastor.

Pastor Search

Opening Date – November, 2017

Closing Date – until filled

All interested and qualified candidates should go to bethelbceast.org and point to “Shepherd”

for an application and job description. You must submit an initial “Candidate Package”

consisting of the following information:

1. A completed application

2. A current resume

3. Copies of ministerial license and ordination certificate

4. Copies of degrees from accredited institutions

5. Verification of theological training

BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH, EAST Pastoral Qualifications, Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

A. Be an Ordained Minister of the Baptist Denomination.

B. Be a graduate of a Theological Seminary or Divinity School that has the highest rating given

by an approval accreditation association.

C. Have at least five years of experience as a Pastor of a Baptist Church.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidate must demonstrate:

• Spiritual maturity and characteristics outlined in … 1 Timothy 3: 1-7 and Titus 1: 6-9.

• Evidence of a Licensed Minister and ordained in accordance with the Baptist Faith.

• Evidence of matriculation through Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or higher from an accredited

institution.

• Commitment to further religious training.

• The ability to articulate a vision for the church that emphasizes spiritual growth,

evangelism, and Christian Education development.

• Effective communication skills (written, oral and interpersonal) with the ability to teach

sound doctrine and preach effectively from the Holy Bible.

• The ability to plan and conduct worship services.

• The ability to moderate and preside at church meetings.

• Strong leadership skills.

• Experience in Pastoral and/or Biblical counseling.

• A record of community and mission involvement.

• An active record and knowledge of local, state and national issues that affect the

congregation.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) at the intermediate

level.

Prior experience in maintaining a multi-staff church or institution.

Physical ability to perform all duties pertinent to the role of Pastor.

Mission Statement

The Mission of this Church shall be the preaching of the gospel, teaching of the Christian faith,

the proclaiming of the gospel of Jesus Christ, as the redemptive force in individual life and

society, the promoting of those great distinctive principles for which the Baptist denomination

represents and extending the Kingdom of God to this community and throughout the world.

Pastoral Job Description

The Pastor must be: A full-time Pastor, able to preach the specified Word of God as inspired by the Holy Bible.

A spiritual leader who is accountable to God, the Church Leadership and the congregation

as a whole.

Accountable for establishing the overall direction that God has for the Church and

communicating that vision to the congregation with the support of the Church Leadership.

Able to objectively implement the vision in collaboration with the Church Leadership.

Accountable for overseeing and directing the effectiveness of all the ministries of the

church.

Willing to provide pastoral care for members and be especially cognizant of the “sick and shut-in”.

Responsibilities

The Pastor must:

• Administer the Ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

• Set an example of good Christian Character, Behavior and Life Style.

• Serve as spiritual Leader of the Church.

• Plan and conduct worship services.

• Provide God-inspired sermons that educate, motivate, inspire and unite the congregation in

Christian growth and service.

• Shepherd the congregation so that the church body is edified and equipped to do the work

of Jesus Christ.

• Serve as Counselor and Spiritual Advisor for all members.

• Conduct ceremony of Ordination of Ministers and Deacons.

• Work cooperatively with all members of the Church.

• Provide pastoral counseling, performs weddings, conduct funerals and memorial services.

• Articulate a vision for the church that emphasizes spiritual growth; evangelism and Christian

Educational Development.

• Teach Bible study lessons that provide practical applications and insight for daily living and

development.

• Plan and provide revival services periodically for the spiritual renewal of the church.

• Promote Biblical stewardship, both financial and personal.

• Exercise good stewardship in managing God’s resources.

• Provide a vision and commitment for church growth, membership retention, and spiritual

development, especially in youth and young adults.

• Demonstrate the ability to work and effectively communicate with all age groups of the

church membership.

• Participate and cooperate with local, district, regional, and national religious organizations.

• Collaborate with the Church Leadership to execute the mission and vision of the church.

• Work in collaboration with the Church Leadership in compliance with the Bible, Constitution

and By-Laws of the Church.

• Establish annual leadership training meetings to improve leadership knowledge and skills

within the church.

• Represent the church in civic and community matters.

• Organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the overall Church ministry.

• Exercise confidentiality in all aspects of the Church life.

Moderate and preside at the Joint Board Meeting and other scheduled church meetings, as

needed.

Be an ex-officio member of all ministries.

Perform all duties and responsibilities required as Pastor.
