Be Thou My Vision(By Eleanor Hull 1912)

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;

Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;

Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

pPrefaceqAll: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom

no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through

Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers of PenitenceOur Lord Jesus Christ said:

The first commandment is this:Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.

The second is this: Love your neighbour as yourself.There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two com-

mandments hang all the law and the prophets. All: Amen. Lord, have mercy.

We come to ask God as one from who no secrets are hidden, to ask for his forgiveness and peace.

All: Lord our God, in our sin we have avoided your call.Our love for you is like the morning cloud,

like the dew that goes away early.Have mercy on us;

deliver us from judgement;bind up our wounds and revive us;in Jesus Chris our Lord. Amen.

The Lord forgive us our sin,Unite us in the love which took Christ to the cross,

and bring us in the spirit to his wedding feast in heaven.All: Amen.

pThe CollectqGod our Father, you have taught us through your Son that love is the ful-

filling of the law. Grant to your servants that, loving one another, they may continue in your love until their lives’ end: through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and forever.All: Amen

Lord Of The DanceWords by Sydney Carter (b.1915)

I danced in the morning when the world was begun,And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth;

At Bethlehem I had my birth.

Page 5: Bethan Order of Service

Chorus:Dance, then, wherever you may be;

I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.

I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee,But they would not dance and they would not follow me.

I danced for the fishermen, for James and JohnThey came with me and the dance went on.

Chorus

I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame;The holy people said it was a shame.

They whipped and they stripped and they hung me on high;They left me there on a cross to die.

Chorus

I danced on a Friday when the sky turned blackIt's hard to dance with the devil on your back.

They buried my body and they thought I'd gone;But I'm the dance and I still go on.

Chorus

They cut me down and I leapt up high;I am the life that will never, never die;

I'll live in you if you'll live in meI am the Lord of the Dance said he.

Chorus

Final PrayersEternal God, true and loving Father, in holy matrimony you make your

servants one. May their life together witness to you your love in this troubled world; may unity overcome division, forgiveness heal injury and

joy triumph over sorrow, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.All: Amen.

Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught usAll: Our Father, who art in Heaven,

hallowed be thy name; they kingdom come;they will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive usour trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not in to temptation;

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
