BELOIT RIFLE CLUB

Hey Y’all! Spring is almost here and the busy season for d i s c i p l i n e shooting at the club is upon us!!! Hurray!! Make sure to always check the calendar before you come out to make sure the range you are wanting to shoot at isn’t booked. We are working on putting an NRA Basic Pistol, Illinois Conceal Carry, Reloading and a Range Safety Officer Training classes together. (All separate classes :-) So be on the look out for that. I would like to remind all of you to pull out your rule book and refresh your selves on range rules. (They are also on our website!) With member renewals happening in February it is just a good plan to fresh yourself. Especially if you don’t frequent the range. As you all know we will be having new members coming in March! Please make them feel welcome and help with out when needed. We will also be having Range Orientations that are mandatory for our new members but are always open and we encourage all members to attend to learn more about our ranges and disciplines. Have a good spring and hopefully will see you out on the range! Julie Wagoner, President

Welcome to the 2020 season. Good weather is right around the corner and many events have already been scheduled.

Do you or someone you know have a youngster that would like the Youth Sports Fest? That is one of my favorite events of the year. Information is on the web site.

We have discipline events starting as well, participate or just observe the many oppor-tunities to try a new discipline.

Somethings never change and that includes safety at our range. The rule book tells you what you can and cannot do on the ranges. Questions can be answered by the dis-cipline head named on your membership card. Remember, display your badge and get one for guests to use when you sign them in. Guests need to be signed in before they shoot at the club house, black powder lodge or the shed out back.

Safety concerns such as the unsafe use of the range should be brought to my attention. Information needs to include who, what, where and when in order for us to help with correction. If you are unable or reluctant to contact an offender, prompt notification helps us make corrections. Most of us have phones that will take pictures if necessary. We expect members to be civil to one another and thank the members that help keep the range safe.

If you damage something or see damage, please contact the discipline head or range construction. If it poses an immediate danger please try contacting someone until you are able to speak to someone in person. Deliberate damage is not tolerated but things do happen. The range construction committee does an amazing job of keeping the range is great shape.

BELOIT RIFLE CLUB

Hello BRC members new and old, It is time I wrote about our Pistol discipline. Primarily we concentrate on a shooting sport known as Precision Pistol or formerly called “Bullseye”. Not all of us are Master or High Master shooters, but we try. To some of you, this may not be of any interest or you may have already tried it and just do not care for it. But here goes. To those who stay with me. We shoot off-hand and run a league indoor and outdoor. The guns we use are a .22, a center fire (.32 S&W, .38 special, 9mm and 45 ACP. We shoot a 3 gun league for our indoor and 2 guns for the outdoor leagues. Outdoor would be .22 and a center fire gun. This includes the .45 ACP. If you have an interest in what we do, please contact me. My number is on your membership card. The pistol director, me, does not have control over how the indoor range is run. If you have questions about calibers, and the times the indoor range is open I can be contacted.

As an example the Pistol league has control of the indoor and outdoor ranges on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The indoor range has league shoots on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. Tuesday nights we practice. During our summer league we have matches every Tuesday night and practice on Thursday starting in June running into September. You can check our web-site calendar for the days and dates. January 3, 2020 we cleaned out the lead from the indoor range. I would like to thank the members who helped, Wally Marshall, Brian Beebe, John Bunger, Tom Whiney, Mike Keating, Roy Rice, Ron Fieset, Kevin Herrick, Brad Weisensel, John Budzynski, and if you slipped out the door without signing the sheet–Thank you! Cleaning the indoor range is not the most pleasant job, but with the crew we had, it made the job go quite fast. Thanks to all! I think that about wraps it up for me. Jon Kittleson

In an increasingly urbanized world, young people are getting fewer chances to experience some of the shooting and outdoor activities we take for granted. Shooting gives young people the opportunity to participate in an exciting and challenging sport that may be enjoyed throughout their entire lifetime.

Shooting teaches responsibility and self-discipline while developing concentration skills and building self-esteem. Because shooting does not place emphasis on strength, endurance, speed, or gender; boys and girls of various sizes, ages, and physical abilities can participate together on a relatively equal basis.

The NRA Day Program - Youth Sports Fest was developed to introduce young people to our American history and heritage, and to the rewarding, lifelong sport of shooting! This program acquaints young people with a variety of shooting and outdoor activities in a festival-like event! It is a recreational, non-competitive event designed to offer youths a hands-on introduction to shooting by Nationally Certified Instructors and is a welcome opportunity for youths who might not otherwise get an opportunity to experience America’s outdoor traditions.

Events include: *American History and Heritage *Firearms Safety & Instruction *Muzzleloader Shooting *Rifle & Pistol Shooting *Archery *Air Rifle Shooting *Shotgun Shooting *Steel Challenge *Cowboy Action Shooting

Certification of Participation will be awarded at the conclusion of the event. We Supply Everything! DO NOT bring any firearms or equipment.

Event limited for youths ages 8 to 18 years old!!! Register Early – Spots are limited to the first 150 Registrants!!! We welcome, and encourage parents to stay throughout the day and join us for lunch, but do ask you to consider a donation to cover the cost of your lunch.

Normal wear and tear is expected but should not be accelerat-ed. Thank-you. Remember: 1. No unintended discharge of a firearm. 2. No rounds to leave the range. 3. Wear your safety glasses and hearing protection 4. ALL members, whether new this year or a 40 year plus vet-eran have a duty to see that our rules and procedures are fol-lowed. Politely remind each other if infractions are observed. We have a 'jewel' of a club. Please keep it that way. THANK YOU! 5. No 50 BMG's to be used on Club grounds at any time! 6. Always wear your Membership Badge. Email or call if you have questions. Paul Schuler 815 623 2268 Email: [email protected] Safe and Accurate Shooting Every barrel and action is a law onto itself. The 2020 winter .22 rifle and pistol indoor Silhouette shooting season start-ed on January 6th, and it will end on Monday, April 27th. Again this year we are shooting on Monday evenings. We shoot paper silhouette targets on our indoor range. Come out and join us any time between 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Bring more than one gun, if you would like to. This is a great chance to practice your offhand rifle and pistol shooting skills. Remember, these evenings are casual and intended to be for fun. Everyone is urged to join us. Let’s have some good participation again this year. Our annual "Frosty Iron Challenge", was held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020. The information flyer for this match says, " Only a blizzard will cancel this event." We came so very close to doing just that. The weather was terrible. The temperature was 25 degrees, with 20 to 25 mile per hour winds, overcast, and 6" of snow the night before. Only two shooters came out to participate. Dennis Loertscher was the match winner in Standard Rifle (Heavy) Class, hitting 20 out of 40. Mike Koehler was the match winner in Hunter (Light) Class hitting 11 out of 40.

The 2020 summer outdoor Silhouette tar-get shooting season will start on Thursday, May 4th. We will shoot a 40 round practice match every Thursday night starting at approximately 5:15. In addition, our 80 round monthly NRA sanctioned matches are scheduled on Saturdays again this year. The scheduled dates for these tournaments are May 23, June 27, July 18, Aug 22 [Wisconsin State Championship], and Sept 19. All shooters are encouraged to participate. Also, mem-bers can get in about six easy work hours if you come out and help set targets for the day. If you have any questions, call Steve Schmalz at 608-362-7172 for more details. Be safe and have a great 2020! Steve Schmalz Silhouette Director 608-362-7172
