review some terms:Write these down in your notes because you MUST use them in your assignment for this lesson.

BIAS
• prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.

Hidden Agenda
• a secret or ulterior motive for something.

Argument Flaws
• Also known as LOGICAL FALLACIES – (You learned these last year in 9th grade. No, you really
did and I don’t want to hear that you didn’t)– Slippery Slope– Hasty Generalization– Circular Argument– Either/or– Ad populum (speaks to the positive or negative concepts
instead of the actual issue) – Here’s a video which will explain some of these and more

• Look at #1, # 4, #7, #11, #12 • Identify the possible BIAS for each• Identify the possible Hidden Agenda for each• Identify a POSSIBLE Argument flaw (what
could they possible have – not what do they have)
Read Article 3, 4 and 5.
• Compare each argument and its reasons
• What is the possible BIAS for each author?
• Does anyone seem to have a hidden agenda?
• What argument flaws are there? (this is the valid column on your notes.)
