SIGHTS OF BELARUS

The city of Grodno is located on

the border of Belarus and Poland,

in 280 kilometers to the west from

the capital, Minsk. It is an

administrative centre of the

Grodno region and district. The

area of Grodno makes 142 square

kilometers, the population – about

365 000 people.

On the coat of arms of Grodno in the blue field of

a board a deer with a golden cross between

horns jumping through a silver wattle fence, the

Saint Hubert’s deer is represented.

Grodno is one of the most ancient and most beautiful cities

of Belarus which is situated on both banks of the

picturesque river Neman. For the first time it was

mentioned in chronicles in 1127.

GRODNO STATE AGRARIAN

UNIVERSITY

Educational Institution “Grodno State Agrarian University” is

the largest educational and scientific centre of the Western

region of Belarus.

It was founded in 1951. During 65 years more than 35,000

specialists graduated from the university and about 70,000

managers and experts of the agro-industrial sector got their

professional development and fulfilled the retraining and

qualification improvement courses here.

The university has developed and introduced quality

management system in the National STB ISO 9001-2009 and

German DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 systems.


UNIVERSITY

University realizes training at 8 faculties in 11 specialties of

agricultural, engineering, technological and economical

profiles. Advanced methods and teaching technologies are

used in the educational process.

More than 340 teachers work at 32 chairs of the university.

More than 50% of the teaching staff have an academic degree

of Doctor or Candidate of Science. About 8000 students study

at our university. There are opportunities for continuous

learning, obtaining of the second higher education at the same

time. For the preparation of highly qualified scientific

personnel there are Master’s degree, postgraduate and

doctoral courses. A Council for defense of candidate and

doctoral theses successfully works at EI “GSAU”.

The Educational Institution “Grodno State Agrarian University” offers the

educational programmes of pre-university training (Preparatory

Department) for the international students in two profiles:

Academic year lasts from September 1 till June 30.

The cost of studying at the Preparatory Department is 1800 $.

After finishing the Preparatory Department the foreign students will get a

certificate on completion of the Preparatory Department, which gives the

right to continue studies at higher education programmes of the I and the II

stages, as well as at PhD course.

Main directions of scientific researches of the university:

development and perfection of the existing ecologically safe technologies directed to rising of soil

fertility, increasing of crop capacity and improvement of product quality;

creation of new cultivars of plants and breeds of farm animals;

development of technology of cultivation of herbs;

studying of physiological and biochemical processes of regulation of plants and animals vital

activity in order to control their productivity and resistance to adverse environmental conditions;

creation of new types of mineral fertilizers and development of methods of their application;

development of application technology of plant growth stimulants of hormonic type;

creation of conditions for conservation of forages and fodder additives from local sources of raw

materials for wholesome scientifically based feeding of farm animals and poultry;

development of the accelerated breed-forming process and reproduction of animals based on

modern methods of biotechnology (transplantation method);

creation of new veterinary preparations for prevention and treatment of diseases of farm animals

and poultry;

development of the system of monitoring providing of highly productive animal husbandry in the

region;

practical implementation of the model of reforming of agricultural enterprises into new forms of

ownership;

development of scientific bases and methods of complex increase of educational process

efficiency.

In the structure of research activities of the EI “GSAU” there are also an

experimental field, a central research laboratory, a biotechnological center for

reproduction of farm animals, a laboratory of DNA technologies, a selection center for

creation of new cultivars of grain crops.

One of the most important directions of international cooperation is

development of project activity. So, Grodno State Agrarian

University together with foreign partners is implementing the

following projects:

Tempus Project “Human Security (environment, quality of food,

public health and society) on Territories Contaminated by

Radioactive Agents”. Project coordinator is the University of Cordoba

(Spain);

Tempus Project “Reform of High School Education in the Field of

Biotechnology. Development of a new BSc/MSc – Curriculum”;

Project “Farmers University Exchange Programme” (FUEP),

directed to organization of practical training of our students on

organic farms in Sweden.
