1 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background The word „sport‟ comes from the French word „desport‟ meaning “leisure” with the eldest that entertain and amuse humans. From the Oxford dictionaries, sport defines as an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Sport teaches us to strive for fair play, resulted toward teammates and opponents, ethical behaviour and integrity, and grace in victory or defeat that is sportsmanship attitude. It delivers an aspiration to enjoy for its own sake. Sport is generally recognised as activities based in physical athleticism or physical dexterity. Sport can also be recognised primarily physical, primarily mind, predominantly motorised, primarily co-ordination, or primarily animal supported. Sport plays a key role in enhancing physical, social, and mental health. Engaging in sports since an early age strengthens our bones and muscles and tones of our body. It helps increase stamina and endurance. Research shows that sports improve Math skills in children. It also helps develop leadership qualities. A person who joins sports activity enjoys a healthier lifestyle compared to those who don‟t. Sports centre is a place where human being doing their sports activity. It is important to ensure the facilities in the sports centre is always on the greatest quality. Sports infrastructure involves a main role in making a person participating in sport activity because of coziness and comforting facilities. It is important to keep the sport‟s centre well organized, well planed, and satisfy the needs of user.

1.2 Objectives

1.2.1 To investigate the satisfaction of students towards the quality of sport

facilities in UiTM Shah Alam campus.

1.2.2 To study the problems faced by students in the sport facilities in UiTM

Shah Alam campus.

1.2.3 To study students‟ opinion in improving the sport facilities in UiTM

Shah Alam campus.

1.3 Methodology

1.3.1. Data gathering

We gather information and data by giving the questionnaire about personal

information from the students of UiTM Shah Alam and the problem they faced.

The respondents were instructed to complete the questionnaire and return to us.

We obtain the data from the questionnaire, and get complaints from the student

who used the sport centre in UiTM Shah Alam.

The data gathered such as articles and journals are required for this report to

support and guide us in analyzing the results we get from the respondents.

Information that was extract from the articles and journals are used for further

discussion on the results.

1.3.2 Data Analysis

Graphs and charts are used through this research project in analyze the data

gathered. The way we visualize the data would help us ease in identifying and

comparing the major problems that UiTM students faced in using the sports

centre.

1.3.3 Data Interpretation

The data collected was interpreted into three categories which are the

satisfaction of students towards the quality of sports centre facilities in UiTM

Shah Alam campus, problems faced by them and their opinion in using the

facilities. The questions were created based on these objectives and the findings

then were computerized in charts and graphs for clearer view.

1.4 Scope and limitation

Our scope is focus on the sport facilities inside the UiTM Shah Alam campus

the limitation of our observation is the sport centre outside from the UiTM Shah

Alam campus, the sport facilities that inside the female college and the side that

under the construction.

1.5 Terms of reference

On 5th

of March 2013, a group of Geomatics students led by Muhammad Zainul

Afiq, Safwan Izzaty, Nurul Ariffin and Abdullah Syahir were assigned to

prepare a report by Mahd Azmi Che Mahmood a lecturer for Report Writing

(BEL422) on Sports facilities in UiTM Shah Alam campus. The objectives of

the report are to find out the quality of sports centre facilities in UiTM Shah

Alam campus, problems faced by them and their opinion in using the facilities.

The full report is to be submitted on 24th

of June 2013. It contains of

Introduction, Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations.

2.0 FINDINGS

2.1 Introduction

In this section, the data collected from the questionnaire will be analyzed and

constructed using series of bar chart to give the audience a rough idea of the type

of questions distributed. Data was analyzed by its average and highest score of

option.

2.2 Primary Data

The data was gathered through questionnaire which was distributed to the

students in UiTM Shah Alam from various faculties. The questionnaire was

divided into three parts depends on the objectives.

2.2.1 Findings for first objective

The figure shows a bar chart on how many students who satisfied with

the quality of sports facilities in UiTM Shah Alam campus. The chart

displays a high number of total students who satisfied with the quality of

sports facilities in UiTM Shah Alam by 69 students compared to 51

students who is not satisfied. More than half students are satisfied with

the facilities provided.

2.2.2 Findings for second objective

The figure shows the bar chart on the problems that students in UiTM

Shah Alam campus faced in using the facilities in the sports centre. From

the chart above, equipments sufficiency ranked the first of all the

problems by 31%. The space availability comes second for the both

gender by 30%. Next, problem that students faced was safety procedure

that applied to them. The coziness of the environment and the staffs

working in the sports centre is just a minor problem to them based on the

charts displayed. Equipments availability is the most problem that female

students faced by total of 68 students. Whereas, male students faced

space availability problem by total number of 45 students.

2.2.3 Findings on third objective

Alam Campus‟ Sports Centre

The bar chart shows the types of facilities that need to be added based on

students‟ opinion. Most students in UiTM Shah Alam campus preferred

lake for watery sports facility by total number of 86 students and bicycle

track by total number of 83 students. Parking spaces is the least

demanded by the students by 12% of all types of facilities. Most male

students demanded bicycle track ahead of lake facility by the difference

of 4 students. Whereas, majority female students preferred lake facility

ahead of bicycle track by the difference of 7 students.

3.0 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

3.1 Conclusion

3.1.1 We can conclude that most students in UiTM Shah Alam campus

satisfied with the quality delivered by the facilities of sports centre in

UiTM Shah Alam campus.

3.1.2 From the findings, we can indicate that major students in UiTM

Shah Alam campus are having equipments problem when using the

sports centre.

3.1.3 From the questionnaire distributed, we can state that students in

UiTM Shah Alam preferred lake facility to be added.

3.2 Recommendation

3.2.1 It can be recommended that sports centre in UiTM Shah Alam just

need to maintain their quality as their quality is considered great based

on students opinion.

3.2.2 It can be suggested that sports centre in UiTM Shah Alam need to

fix, repair, and adding the equipments in their centre in order to satisfy

the students.

3.2.3 The actions that need to be taken to satisfy the demand of students

in using the sports centre in UiTM Shah Alam campus is adding the lake

for watery sports facility.
