BBC Business Boomers Coffee Shop Hot Shots Documentary review Coffee is one of the products most consumed in the world. But there are countries that don’t have a tradition in coffee like UK which is called a tea country. However, nowadays UK is a coffee country too. Today there are 3 big companies who control the coffee shop industry: COSTA, STARBUCKS and NERO. COSTA produces 600 million per year, it’s the number one for female people. STARBUCKS produces 400 million per year, it’s the number one for young people. NERO produces 215 million per year, it has a Italian traditional service and it’s the number one for male people. In 2009, UK had an economic crisis; however people continued drinking coffee, even if they were unemployed. Also this crisis was very good for these companies because they buyed a great amount of place with low cost and the put many new stores. Traditionally, there is a commercial war between Costa and Starbucks. Both of them offer the same service, they try to attract the costumers using marketing strategies. In the other side NERO offers a different service: the Italian tradition. These 3 companies have the 30% of the market. The other 70% belongs to independent coffee places.
