There is no alternative to palm in the

oleochemistry industry

■ Most efficient oil; minimizing indirect land use change: ~ 16 mio hectar deliver ~ 65 mio

tons palm and palm kernel oil (~ 4,1 t/ha)

■ No.1 vegetable oil: oil palm accounts for around 30% of global production of natural oils

and fats

■ Palm kernel oil is together with coconut oil the only source for C-Chain C12-14 (basis for

BASF´s oleochemicals)

■ Coconut oil is not a strategic alternative: over-aged trees, small holder crop with low

efficiency (~ 8 mio hectar deliver ~ 3 mio tons coconut oil 0,37 t/ha)

■ No commercially feasible, renewable alternative to palm & palm kernel oil foreseeable
