Using software configurations

Create and share a network folder

A shared network folder provides an accessible place to store applications The administration accounts used for the BlackBerry Administration Service must have write permissions for the shared network folder BlackBerry smartphones and the computers that host the BlackBerry Enterprise Server instances must have access to this shared network folder

725-01658-123

Using software configurationsSpecifying the location of the shared network folder in the BlackBerry Administration Service

Click the BlackBerry Administration Service component.

Using software configurations

Add the applications to the application repository

The application repository stores and manages all versions of the BlackBerry Java Applications that administrators want to install on, update on, or remove from BlackBerry smartphones

Using software configurationsCreate a software configuration

After the shared network folder has been created and applications have been published to the application repository, administrators can create software configurations First, it is important to understand the purpose of application control policies and how they work with software configurations

Using software configurationsAbout application control policies (continued) There are two types: Application control policies that are applied to BlackBerry Java Applications when they are added to a software configuration When an administrator adds a BlackBerry Java Application to a software configuration to install the application on BlackBerry smartphones, the administrator must specify an application control policy to apply to the BlackBerry Java Application725-01658-123 2009 Research In Motion Limited

Using software configurationsAbout application control policies (continued) Application control policies for unlisted applications Controls whether the software configuration allows BlackBerry smartphone users to install and use applications that are not included in the software configuration (unlisted applications)

2009 Research In Motion Limited

Using software configurationsAbout application control policies (continued) The BlackBerry Administration Service includes the following three standard, preconfigured application control policies for BlackBerry Java Applications: Standard Required: The application must be installed and run on the assigned BlackBerry smartphones Standard Optional: The application is optional on the assigned BlackBerry smartphones Standard Disallowed: The application is not permitted on the assigned BlackBerry smartphones
