Now with the combination of Easygen 3500 and LS-521, the application requirements are made

simpler without sacrificing the flexibility of these solutions. The communication between the

LS-521 and individual generators are made possible by a simple 2 wire (CAN-H, CAN-L) CANBus

protocol. This not only allows the respective modules to communicate more effectively but also

reduce the wiring and even replaces the PLC under certain situation.

The proposed solution can be connected with up to 32 Easygen 3500 together with 16 LS-521

for multiple mains incoming and bus bar coupling.

Refer to figure 1, each Easygen 3500 is assigned to control their respective GCB. The controllers

will manage the synchronization and load sharing process within the group without the

involvement of the LS5 if the tie breaker is open.

For coupling of Group 1 and 2 generators, the LS-521 is already pre-assigned with what we call

the segment. Busbar A is assigned segment 1 while Busbar B is 2. Upon the command from PLC

or panel input switches to the LS-521 input for synchronization, LS-521 via CANBus will

command group 1 and 2 for a synchronization electrical parameters matching to close the tie-

breaker. Once the synchronization process is complete, the LS-521 must receive tie-breaker

feedback input to start the load sharing process as a single group (G1,2,3,4,5,6). In this case

now all the units will recognize Busbar A and B as only segment 1.

The philosophy of Woodward Easygen 3500 and LS5 on more complex applications with

multiple mains and busbar coupler is by making use of the segment assignment concept. When

2 or more Busbar /mains of different segment are coupled together, the lower number will be

assigned and recognized by the Woodward controllers for the group load management. A

typical example is illustrated in figure 2 below
