Identify Country and Manufacturer: The first piece of information a bar code communicates is the

country where the product was manufactured.

Product Identification and Tracking: A company can track how much of a product it sells and track the

rise and fall in popularity of its items. Allows the company to identify how much it has made in sales and

determine on which products it needs to step up production.

Computer Communication: When a scanner passes over the bar code, it interprets the black

lines as information. The computer can transmit this information onto a screen and may

also store the information for tracking purposes. Printed numbers are located below the bar code to allow the

information to be manually entered into a computer or search engine.

Tracking movement of item such as rental cars, airline luggage and mail.

Tickets which allows the holder to enter sports arenas, cinemas or theatres.
