Parent Guide – All you need to know

Dear Parents/Carers, Thank you to those who attended the parents meeting for the trip to Barcelona. This guide will provide you with some further details about the trip including a recommended kit list and travel itinerary. Departure time Saturday 15th June Departure time from school: 2:45am Arrival to Barcelona: 9:20am Students will need to be dropped off at the school for 2:00am. Luggage & Passports will be checked in at the sports hall (please bring cases through when you arrive). Tuesday 18th June Departure time: 8:40pm Arrival time: 11:45pm (Approx.) As we will be arriving back to the school very late your child must be picked up by an adult. Your child will not be allowed to leave the school on their own. It is important that you pick your child up on time. The school will keep you updated if there are any time changes in the arrival time back to school via text. Medication If your child is likely to suffer from travel sickness, please ensure they have with them the appropriate medication, and are instructed when to take it. If they are likely to need any other medication during the day, it is vital that we are informed about it, and the necessary medication is sent into school by Monday 10th June 2019. If your child has a valid European Health Insurance Card, please send this with them. Passport and Emergency Contact Numbers If you would like the school to keep your child’s passport up until the trip, please ensure that your child brings his/her passport and hands it in to the Reception by Friday 7th June 2019 at the latest. Alternatively, your child can bring his/her passport on the day of the trip. Should we need to contact you in an emergency, we will use your emergency contact details. If you happen to change your phone number before the trip, please ensure the correct number is brought in to school immediately. EHIC If your child has a valid European Health Insurance Card please send this with them. If your child does not have an EHIC then try to order one before we go. The card is provided free of charge. Kit list (guidelines): Here’s a list of things you’ll need to pack – along with a few that aren’t essential but could be useful. Luggage: Please restrict this to 1 suitcase (or holdall bag) and 1 small rucksack. British Airways guidelines for case dimensions: Hand Luggage: One piece of standard baggage no bigger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm including the handle, pockets and wheels and one laptop or handbag no bigger than 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm including the handle and pockets (must fit under the seat) PLEASE NOTE: Once we have checked in the luggage, we will not be able to access it until we reach Barcelona. Therefore, anything that your child will require on the plane will need to be packed in their backpack. Things you need:

• 2x Long trousers • 3x shorts • 5x t-shirts • 2x nightwear • 1x warm jumper • 1x Comfortable footwear (can also bring pair of slides/sandals) • Underwear • Swim trunks/one piece swimsuit • Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant etc. • Suncream • Beach towel • Plastic bag for dirty clothes • Travel water bottle • Light jacket • Backpack

Useful items:

• Two-pin Plug adapter • Camera / film / spare batteries • Books, playing cards and other quiet activities for coach/plane journey • Resources: Pens, pencils, note book (optional)

* You are not required to carry any pillow or duvet covers as these are provide at the hotel.

Spending money Your child will need spending money for snacks and souvenirs. €30 will be a sufficient amount of money (€40 maximum). * Money must be in correct currency and CASH ONLY. Packed lunches Your child will not have an opportunity to buy any food at the airport so please provide you child with a packed lunch. Below is a list of suggested foods for the journey:

Sandwiches Cold meats Fruits Yogurt

Fruit/Granola bars Biscuits Crackers Dried fruits

Rice cakes Savory snacks Crisps Breadsticks

*Please be aware that NO liquids will be allowed on the plane so please do not pack any drinks. Mobile phones

Keeping safe around Barcelona Keeping safe whilst we are away is very important. Therefore, each child will be given a ‘I’m lost’ card to wear whenever we are on outdoor activities. The card will be in a booklet that will consist of accommodation details and a number to call the trip leader.

Pupils are allowed to bring their mobile phone on the trip. However, phones must be on flight mode at all times and only used to take photos. Phones will be taken at the end of every day and pupils are not permitted to use any form of social media. If caught, phones will be confiscated.

Behaviour & conduct While we are away, please remember your child’s behaviour represents our school and students in general. Therefore, your children are expected to conduct themselves appropriately and have respect for both staff and their peers. We want everyone to have an enjoyable experience. Please remind your children of the following:

ü Never go off on your own.

ü Keep your money safe in a wallet or purse, preferably in an inside pocket.

ü Behave well at all times, particularly on the coach. Move around calmly and quietly. Remember other travelers want a peaceful journey!

ü Be polite to all adults, lots of pleases and thank-yous, especially in Spanish!
