I’m continuing the series of lessons that God the Father has taught this first time father…

Lessons from the Father

“The Father loves it when His children are thankful.” As I write this article, we are quickly approaching the national US holiday of Thanksgiving. Many of you by the time you have read this will likely have celebrated Thanksgiving. I pray that you have recognized the spiritual significance of the day. We, as Christians, have much to be thankful for (I encourage you to think of the many ways God has blessed you!). In our house-hold we are quickly approaching young Clay’s 2nd birthday (his birthday is December 7th, “Pearl Harbor Day”). Within these two short years, we’ve worked on creating a polite young man. Thus far, he’s pretty good at saying & signing (he knows a lim-ited set of American Sign Language) “Please”. We’re also work-ing on “Thank You”. He’s already begun to develop his own likes & dislikes. So if I were to speak for him & put together his list of things he’s thankful for, here are a few of the things I think he’d list: ♦ Mommy & Daddy (& the rest of the extended family)

♦ Guitars, drums, & pianos

♦ Balls & hoops with which to play with

♦ Cars & trucks to roll around on the floor

♦ The floor on which to roll around (with Daddy)

♦ The huge outdoors to explore & the time to do it

Clay, when you read this one day, I thank you for each joyous smile you give & the zest you add to each new experience. God has truly blessed our family with a little gem.

Here’s the lyrics to a VeggieTales song (“The Thankfulness Song”) that is fitting:

A thankful heart is a happy heart. I'm glad for what I have, That's an easy way to start. For the love that He shares When He listens to my prayers. That's why I say thanks every day.

The Kansas City District WMA met at Glenview Baptist Church for the Quarterly Meeting Saturday, Oc-tober 25, 2008. A total of 51 were present. The fundraising project chosen for the next year is “Arab Women Today Ministry” (suggested by the Missions office). This quarterly meeting was in conjunction with the Semi-Annual Auction. Steve Crandall served as our auctioneer & did a terrific job. This year’s proceeds were the greatest we have had in all the years he has served (since ‘98). Our thanks go to Steve and Sheila for their continued commitment & superior assistance over the years!

MM ISSIONSISSIONS D D IRECTORIRECTOR R REPORTEPORT

As we begin the final phases of the mission work in Ot-tawa and Lib-eral and look

forward to the new work in Smithfield I am excited about the work God is doing. The BMA of Oklahoma will continue to sup-port the Baptist Mission on the Rock through June at which time our financial obligations will be ended as well. Bro. Fausto has re-ported some increase in atten-dance and continued ministry in Plains where he has a Bible Study with some families there. Con-tinue to pray for His family as His salary has now ended with our state work and will only be re-ceiving his work fund, medical allotment and money for the internet. Those will all cease in June.

Bro. Steve’s Salary will conclude in January. At the present time we are sending the $500.00 per month to the BMA of America to go towards the work in Smith-ville. Once they arrive there they will need funds to do the work. It is my desire that we approve a full partnership with Bro. Jamie Jones. The BMA of Missouri has already approved the work there as well and this will allow His work to flourish as soon as possi-ble. Bro. Jamie tells me that they have already closed on their house in Smithville and are now training in Colorado through the end of the year. In January they will be-gin a long and tedious task of deputation and will move on the field in April to begin building relationships.

I encourage each of our churches to be praying for the following:

♦ Organization of the mission in Liberal

♦ The continued growth of the Crossroads Baptist Church and the Baptist Mission on the Rock.

♦ The training, deputation and move by Jamie Jones to Smith-ville, MO.

Remember to pray for all our mission endeavors. May God con-tinue to bless you all is my prayer.

Fred A. Vogel

Dear Readers: It felt like October was a very busy month. Our total for the Walk for the World was $1730. With the help of Bro. Bill Bowen and Bro. Eldon Prawl and some others we now have siding and insulation on both sides of the church sanctuary and much im-proved appearance especially above the central air units. Sherry Et-

tinger and Sister Prawl helped out with the craft auction which we heard was a success. Our church has a presence on the world-wide web. You can type in to your browser http://sites.google.com/site/faithmissionarybaptistchurch and you should be able to see it. We hope you add it to your fa-vorites and check back as it is a pretty long address. We have an-nouncements and a devotional that will be changed out a couple times a month. We ask our sister churches

to pray that we can expand our youth work, see salvations, and see a closure to the desire of LaFarge to blast and mine limestone under this neighborhood. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thanks to our mem-bers who made Pastors' Apprecia-tion Month a special blessing to Sherry and I. Hope you all did the same in your churches, or, it's still not too late.

October 8th was the start of a new club at our church. It's called the "3C Club" (Coffee, Christ, & Con-versation). It's open to anyone who wishes to come. There has been a couple of organizational projects completed & plans were made for other projects over coffee & cookies at 8:30am. There's always some-thing that can be done. It's a great way to get to know each other. This happens every Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:30am. If interested, get in touch with Tonja Cliffman.

October 11th was a good day at Mt Zion as several met for a work day. There were several jobs to do & donuts, juice, & coffee got every-one started. It was an enjoyable day meeting & working with our fellow Christians. There will be more events happen in months to

come. Sis Tonja Cliffman is our Co-ordinating Director.

On Sunday October 19th after our morning worship, Trish Daniels & sons Benjamin & Jonathan came for-ward to express their desire to unite with the church. Trish came on the promise of a letter & the boys were later bapt ized on October 26th. They were welcomed into our membership. After church, a fe l lowship dinner was en-joyed. Cake & ice cream topped it off in celebration of Bro Rick's birth-day.

The church met at 6am on Saturday October 25th to walk for the Life-word "Walk for the World". There were a total of 13 walkers that we know of. I don't think that all got there at 6am, but were welcome to walk anytime. Jacen & Karen Rack-ley are the Coordinators for the Walk. Now they are busy collecting the money.

The Gospel Tribe group met on Oc-tober 29th & invited the Garland Community to join them. There were 80+ people in atten-dance. Everyone enjoyed chili & hot dogs. At least 50 went on the hay-rides. Everyone enjoyed the bon fire when they returned. Plans are being made for an even bigger event next year!

I thank Sis Marilyn Webster for tak-ing notes for this write-up. I had knee surgery and have missed church for 2 weeks. I appreciate her help. I thank everyone for their prayers, visits, phone calls, & cards. Also, the flowers were greatly appreciated.

We have several on our prayer list & quite a few with cancer. Let's not forget to pray for them. Let's pray for our country & for the new Presi-dent. I'm so thankful that God is in control no matter who is elected. May God bless each one.

Our God wants a people who will not only pray but also praise Him. We are extremely grateful to God for His blessings. Cindy & Megan Larson followed their Lord in baptism this past month & Laura & Mike Wood have joined our church on their statement. Preacher brethren Marvin Boore & Wayne Jones proclaimed the Word of God

on consecutive Sunday evening ser-vices.

One Wednesday evening October 29th, our church enjoyed a wiener roast & bon fire fellowship. After-wards, four hundred treat bags filled with candy, tracts, & a church invi-tation were prepared & then distrib-uted to all city kids who gathered on the Girard Square on October 31st.

A "Hat Shower" hosted by our la-dies was given to Kathy Carr follow-ing her surgery. Wayne Boore & Wayne Jones both had successful

surgeries this past month. Larry Salzman is undergoing serious treat-ment at this time. Our prayer board is always filled to capacity with ur-gent requests for members & friends. Prayer is the strongest force of energy in the world. It can alter someone's outlook and change their life. It is the work that God does through us that counts, not what we do for Him. Philippians 2:13 -- "For it is God which worketh in you both to will & to do of His good pleasure."

Greetings to our Sister Churches! October proved to be a very busy month for us at First Baptist. We started it off by sending Bro. Justin, Bro. Paul, and their wives to the Pastor’s Oasis in Branson. They re-ported having a great time of spiri-tual renewal and fellowship. That was followed quickly by “Friend Day!” and we certainly enjoyed see-ing several new faces in our crowd. Following morning worship, we en-joyed grilled burgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. Thanks,

grill-masters, for the delicious food! We will be following up with our visitors in an effort to minister to them regularly.

Our Sr. Adults traveled to Chicken Annie’s where they enjoyed deli-cious food and helped Bro. Pat Pat-terson celebrate his birthday. Thanks to Sis. Judy Gilstrap for leading in this ministry, and to Bro. Dan Sand-ers for providing transportation!

Everyone smiled and said “Cheese!” as we had photos taken for a new church directory. We are gathering pictures, writing copy, and hope to have the finished product in hand by the first of the year.

We ended the year with a first for us…Trunk or Treat! Twelve of our families decorated their vehicles and passed out candy, tracts, and church ministry information to over 300 trick-or-treaters. Our ladies fur-nished hot cocoa and cider, and there were games and prizes, too. The carnival-like atmosphere and positive comments we received from the community made this out-reach a winner, and we’re already getting ideas for next year.

In His Service,

Leigh Ryan Reporter

This year for Pastor’s appreciation, we not only recognized our pastor, Bro. Fred, but we also recognized Sis. Mary. Sis. Mary is a great inspiration to many as she has a loving heart and a great sense of humor. We all appreciate eve-rything that they both do for us and our church.

The Corn maze this year was a great success! Our annual trip included going through the maze and eating smores afterwards. The KFC crew have a great time out there in the corn every year.

Our men and boys went golfing on the 18th. The boys had a lot of fun hanging out with the men.

The Church Planting Seminar on the 25th was wonderful. Thank you to every one who came and to every one involved in planning the seminar.

We had a Fall festival on the 26th. We served fall foods, chili and hot dogs. We played fall games and just fellow-shipped for the evening. Everyone had a great time.

God Bless,

Pam Hatcher

Dear Friends,

I would like to introduce to you my family: First of all, my wife Re-bekah. Her dedication to our family is beyond measure. She is a great wife & mother who puts in countless hours on behalf of Isaac, Madelyn, & my-self. She & I are learning more about each other daily in this process of church planting & I can truly say that we are a team. We have been mar-ried nine years, & yes, I married up! Isaac is 3 & full of questions. He wants to know details on everything we do, so right now two of his favor-ite words are ..... "why Daddy" or "why Momma"? Isaac makes me so proud with his helpful spirit & his in-telligence. I can't wait to see how God uses him? Madelyn is almost 2, & she is my little angel. She is cute as they come, but man she likes to climb, get into, take out & apart, spill, splash, throw, break, pour out & on, get under, get on top of & I could go on but you probably get the picture of the adventure that we live. Her smile will melt your heart

as it has mine on several occasions when the above has taken place. We are looking forward to what God is going to do in the Smithville area with our family & also getting to know your families.

This last month I spent some time in Plano, TX, with several other pastors for some training at Prestonwood Bap t i s t Chur ch . The En-gage Conference was filled with some great preachers like David Jeremiah, Greg Laruie, Kerry Shook, & Jona-th an F a lwe l l . The s e men shared their hearts about their own ministries & gave those in atten-dance encouragement to keep fighting the good fight by preaching the Word of God! There were also some break-out sessions that I was able to attend that gave insight into church planting vision, some struggles that church plants face, & men's ministry & other small groups as a key in the process of planting churches. I was greatly chal-lenged & encouraged by the fellow-ship with the other pastors that I at-tended with & by the messages of the speakers.

Currently, my family & I are in Pueblo West, CO. The neat thing is

that it's warmer here than back home in Missouri, who would have thought? We will be spending about 4 weeks here with Richard Payne & the River of Grace Baptis t Church. Bro. Payne will be mentor-ing me over this time period & teach-ing me from his own per-sonal experience of planting the church here over five years ago. We will be working on many things in-cluding my master plan, time-line, web-site, several church events, & many areas of practical ministry.

Please pray for us during this training period & also for the up & coming time of deputation. We will begin deputation in January & be on the road in that process until the end of March. At that time we will be shar-ing the vision with churches in Arkan-sas, Mississippi, Texas, & possible other states. We plan to be on the field come April, & hope to visit & worship with many of you & your churches at that time. Love in Christ, Jamie, Rebekah, Isaac, & Madelyn

Jones

SMITHVILLE, MO MISSION Bro. Jamie Jones, Missionary

Thanks to all of you for your constant love in Christ Jesus, Our Lord. We thank all those who support us here especially because of the economic trials of the Liberal area and ask that you pray for us and all our brothers here at the Baptist Mission on the Rock. We know that the divine light of God is always in control and that the darkness of these times will not be able to stand against the truth of a liv-ing Christ. Sometimes the clouds hide

the sun but it does not mean that the sun stops shining; God is in the same place doing His sacred work. For that reason brethren, we firmly believe that our sacred work is accomplished by the talent that our Father gives to each of us; like loyal soldiers of Christ. I am thrilled to mention in my recent visits to homes here in Liberal that we met an individual who wants to work with parents and teenagers. The individual hopes to help the teens with various problems they face. We are excited about finding the right answers to help.

We continue with the regular meet-ings, emphasizing the different activi-ties that have been developed. Some days are difficult, but with a strong faith we remember that everything is under the control & the aid of the Holy Spirit of God. I thank the BMA of Oklahoma for their decision to continue their support and for the support of our brothers in Christ, Fred Vogel and David Pickard. May God bless you all in Christ.
