SpotlightA Message From the President

The 2018 Giving Challenge was a great success! THANK YOU for giving and for sharing information about the Giving Challenge with your family and friends. This

year the Giving Challenge was a 1:1 match by the Patterson Foundation. The fi nal total for the band was

$10,077.29

Thank you to Tom Barlow, Dennis Dietz and Tom Bancroft for all you work and

service to the band during your terms on the Board of Directors. Tom Barlow was a member of the band for 3 seasons and served on the Board of Director as Pres-ident for 2 years. This year he plans to enjoy time with his family and in service to his church. Dennis was a member for 24 years and on the Board of Directors for 6 years, serving as Chairman for 2 years. Dennis also started and main-

tained our website. Dennis retired from the band in June and now lives in Hay-ward, Wisconsin. Tom Bancroft served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors

and will be joining us again for the 2018-2019 season as a member.

Jason Weintraub

Meet the DirectorsGeorge Nickson

Jason is the Director of the Chautauqua Community Band which he founded in 1992.

Jason is an accomplished Oboe and English Horn player and performs regularly with his wonder-ful wife, Nancy as the Weintraub Duo. Jason attended Eastman School of Music where he

received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. Jason is currently a member of

the Chautauqua, NY Symphony Orchestra and has previously performed with the U.S. Army Field

Band and the Rochester Philharmonic to name a few. Jason taught oboe at the University of Okla-

homa and Kansas State University at Emporia.

George is the Principal Percussionist for the Sarasota Orchestra. He has performed with

orchestras throughout the United States including the San Francisco, Boston and Detroit Sympho-nies. George has taught at the Julliard Summer Percussion Seminar and at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Hailed by the New York Times as, “a performer handling his role with

ease and fl air,” George Nickson is comfortable and virtuosic as a conductor, soloist, and orches-tral percussionist. Mr. Nickson regularly appears as an artist and clinician for Zildjian Cymbals and Majestic Percussion and is a founder and Artistic

Director of ensemblenewSRQ.

It is thrilling to be a part of the MCCB for another season this year, 2018-2019. You will note 3 out of our 4 main performances are at Neel PAC under 2 different

directors (and how about their bios!). Also we are returning to Harbor Isles 2 more times this year (at their request) and

performing for the fi rst time at The Mall at UTC at Christmas. This will be a season of transitions for us, but this will only make our band stronger and more cohesive. We will be welcoming new band members and more returnees from

previous bands. Let’s make this year one of our best years thus far. Let’s play music, learn music, volunteer, and

HAVE SOME FUN!

Jim H.

Volunteers NeededOur band runs on volunteers and WE NEED YOU!!! We need volunteers to help with the

music library, set up and tear down of rehears-als and performances, truck loading and un-

loading for performances, ushers for concerts and the list goes on. Do you have a special

skill? Perhaps your talents in your fi eld of work or hobbies could help out in some way! One example is grants. The season for Grant Writ-ing is fast approaching and a percentage of

our budget comes from grants like the $1,000 grant we received from The Exchange for this

year. If you or someone you know has the time to volunteer for our band please see

Jim Hyler at any rehearsal and speak with him about how you can help. You can also email

[email protected]. Thank you!

You will receive a text that requests your name. Th is shows up in our database so we know who we are texting. You can use a nickname if you prefer. Aft er you provide your name you will receive a text asking if you are a teacher, parent or student. Please reply P for parent (Remind is an app created for schools to communicate with parents and teachers, but can be used by anyone or any organization).
