Plastnir is the major producer of Banana sleeves in Israel Producing 80% of the sleeves used in Israel.

Banana gets a better colour with the use of sleeves.

BLUE SLEEVE 20 MICRONS .

The basic sleeve is a blue sleeve of 20 microns thickness in various degrees of opacity. The sleeve is thin but strong and flexible and provides adequate protection in most climates.

2.Blue 40-60 Microns:

For harsher climates we provide thicker sleeves normally at 40 microns. This sleeve provides protection in harsher climates and replaces the 100 micron sleeves used in the past.

Silver Sleeves:

This sleeve provides similar protection to the blue sleeve but delays the pick by approximately two weeks providing flexibility in marketing.

Immediately after flowering, when banana begins to turn up the sleeve is placed on the bunch in a way that does not impair the growth of the banana.

16. Calculation

The calculation is simple:

Sleeves provide additional output ofapproximately 10% and improve thequality.

A 10% increase in output will provide 2-3 Kgs more fruit / bunch.

Depending on the price of the fruit the extra yield will provide an income 4-10 times larger than the cost of the sleeves.

This is without taking into account the increase in income from the improved quality of the fruit.

Each grower should use sleeves according to climatic conditions, experience and aims.
