Things I learned from other people that I should have already known
The “S” key is context sensitive, and will open a
menu with basic commands that relate to where you are and what
you’re doing.
Things I learned at SolidWorks World 2009
Things that will make you say awwwww or…
Why would I want to do that?Little Known Tips n TricksTips n Stuff
“S” Key to open “Smart Menu”(from Danny W.)
Tips n Stuff
The “A” key will jump from one “Type” to the next so you don’t have to move your mouse ½ inch to pick it.

Tips n Stuff
Simply picking, then deleting the split-point will make the
two lines one again
Re-attach a “Split Line”
Tips n Stuff
You can create a slot’s sketch by offsetting a single Line
and making it bi-directional.

Tips n Stuff
When making a dimension,
you can right-click to lock
It’s type so it doesn’t change as you move it around.

You can save / restore your toolbars and stuff so when SolidWorks crashes, you don’t have to reposition
them all.

Tips n Stuff
You can create great looking Part Labels by linking the text to properties and item
numbers so the text is parametrically linked.
Link Text to Item Numbers
Tips n Stuff
You can change the viewport and drawing backgrounds to
something much cooler and customized.
Navigate to your solidworks install directory, then look for this sub-directory:\Solidworks\data\Images\drawings\sheetbackground1.bmpYou will want to replace the sheetbackround1.bmp with your own bitmap file.
Change the Viewport & Drawing Backgrounds
Tips n Stuff
You can place a hatch’s boundary on a hidden layer.

Tips n Stuff
You can insert entire drawing sheets with details into an existing drawing and have the parts link to the BOM for
quick detailing.
Just so long as the thing your detailing is already in your assembly.
This works for parts and even entire subassemblies.
Inserting Drawing Sheets w/ details into an existing drawing
Tips n Stuff
You can use a Macro to quickly add the CG to a part or assembly, then use that sketch to locate it within a
drawing.
