There are people of different races living in Malaysia. Therefore, there are a lot of festivals throughout the year. Every year, the first celebration will be the New Year which is celebrated by everybody.

Then, comes a Hindu celebration. It is the Thaipusam festival where the main celebration is at Batu Caves. Chinese New Year comes after Thaipusam. Red represents all the good things. This is why the ‘ang pow’ packets are red in colour. Hari Raya Puasa is celebrated by the Muslims. This festival does not have a fixed date and it changes according to the Muslim calendar.

Next, is the Mooncake or Lantern festival. During this festival, lanterns and mooncakes are the main part of the festival. Towards the end of the year, Malaysians celebrates Deepavali and Christmas.

All the celebrations are usually celebrated very grandly by the respective races and the other races join in the celebration as a token of goodwill.
