The user interface makes a remarkable difference in the effectiveness of search, and tailored search applications need tailored user interfaces. Yet the effort and expertise required to do this well can be so daunting that many organizations don’t undertake it, or fail altogether. That’s why BA Insight has created software that reduces the risk and cost of crafting these applications.

The User Experience Engine enables the creation of compelling and effective user interfaces for search-driven applications via an extensible engine and a library of powerful components. The User Experience Engine provides deep and broad capabilities for data visualization, presentation, and interaction within the Knowledge Integration Platform.

Smart Previews provide visual images for quick recognition and exploration of relevant information, including features for exploring information including search inside, hit mapping, hit highlighting, and contextual actions such as copy, email, and download. This is based on Smart Preview Generation, which understands the format and structure of many file types and creates data structures for navigating inside documents and connecting across documents.

Exploration and Discovery

provide visual controls for intuitive navigation: drilldown, refinement, and exploration, with many different presentation elements such as multi-select tree refiners, graphs, and collapsing and dynamic refiners. Searching inside refiners allow users to navigate across large amounts of data quickly and with great precision.

Workspace and Content Assembly

lets you tag, remember, and share content from a search session, and then create composite documents from this. For example, users can create Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, and ZIP files using search-derived content while preserving images and native formatting.

Conversational Search Controls

create search experiences that allow relevancy to be determined on-the-fly based on user intent and context.

Dynamic Result Transformation

updates the result set, mixing in dynamic data on the fly and reordering or translating the values to deliver the best result for each user.

Content Enrichment and Metadata Creation

Consistent, quality metadata is thekey to overcoming the challenge of structuring, managing, and exploiting unstructured content.

The Content Classification Engine increases the findability of content

through the creation and normalization of metadata. It generates and extends managed metadata and provides a collection of powerful text analytics capabilities within the Knowledge Integration Platform.

Smart Mapping provides automatic mapping of metadata properties; dataset connectors that support lookup and content normalization; and flexible content processing such as on-the-fly tag creation enabling sophisticated content enrichment scenarios.

Scripting enables the manipulation of metadata fields, modification of content, and extension of property mapping in any way desired.

AutoClassification provides automatic tagging and classification of content based upon a taxonomy, using a robust rules engine.

Entity Extraction supports dictionary, rules, or regular-expression-based creation of metadata from the contents of a document.

CONTENT CLASSIFICATION ENGINE

The Content Classification Engine enriches content using text analytics and semantic processing. It creates metadata either in-place, as managed metadata columns in SharePoint lists and libraries, or during indexing, as managed properties in the search index. This allows unstructured and structured content from across the enterprise to be securely accessed, cleaned, normalized and enriched to a consistently high standard.

Capturing content is fundamental to search - if it’s not crawled and indexed, you can’t find it! The Content Connectivity Engine provides secure, high-performance crawling and indexing for a wide variety of content sources. It manages sophisticated security scenarios, maps security entitlements from source systems into the search

system, and ensures that results are trimmed to expose only the content the user has access to.

The Content Connectivity Engine acts as a scalable hub for information integration with a set of components and capabilities plugging into it.

Web Services Connectors

The Universal SQL connector toolkit

supports secure indexing for any SQL-based source system with the flexibility to tailor the way database content is composed and transformed into indexed items.

Smart Security Mapping

provides powerful security integration across the heterogeneous security schemes used by different source systems. ‘Early binding’ security makes it possible to deliver secure, high-performance search solutions.

Targets provide a mechanism to direct content into different places, in addition to search indexing. For example, content can be copied to a SharePoint list, along with its metadata and security settings.

MultiSearch enables end users to search against multiple search engines (back-ends) simultaneously and return aggregated results within a single search interface.

Federated Backends connect to a variety of different search engines, translate queries into the supported query syntax of each, manage different security and relevance models, and incorporate content that can’t be centrally indexed.

Connectivity to Line of Business systems requires a balance of high performance and light touch, rigorous security and easy administration across a wide range of sophisticated source systems.
