The event will be held on Hatchie’s Goose Lake and will be open to youth ages 4 – 12. TWRA Wildlife Officer Robert Colvin and Hatchie Refuge Manager Mike Chouinard and his staff will be hosting the event. Officer Colvin said he is “excited to pro- vide this opportunity to the youth of Haywood County.” Officer Colvin added that the event is for “ALL youth, regard- less of their fishing skill level.” Participants must provide their own fish- ing equipment and bait; however, volunteers will be available to assist any new anglers that may need assistance. Parents are not allowed to fish; however, the lake will re- open to the general pub- lic after the youth event is over. Registration will begin at 7:30 am. Fishing will start promptly at 8:00 am and last until 12:00 pm. Prizes will be award- ed for biggest fish, small- est fish, and most fish; among others. For more information and directions to Goose Lake, please call the Refuge Headquarters at (731) 772 – 0501 ext 246 The Haywood County Ambulance service recently hosted a softball tournament benefiting the victims of the Wings crew who were tragically killed in late March when their helicopter crashed in Brownsville. The tournament was held in Jackson all day Saturday with seven teams participating including two hometown teams, Haywood County Ambulance Haywood Park. Teams from Memphis, Germantown and several teams from Jackson participated as well. Finishing first in the tournament was El Chupacabra from Jackson; second place, Rural Metro from Memphis; and third, Haywood Ambulance service, Brownsville. The money raised will be divided between the three victims, the Cindy Parker Nursing Scholarship, Doug Phillip’s Church, and Misty Brogdon’s son’s education. A final tabula- tion of funds raised was not available, because the ambulance service is still selling T-Shirts. If you would like to purchase a T-shirt contact Dustin McKeel at 731-697-8016.
