In exercise of the powers conferred, the Director General-PDPU, hereby makes the following rules to regulate
admissions for academic year 20202021 at its School of Technology and School of Petroleum Technology for
the Bachelor of Technology Programs.
1. DEFINITIONS
In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires,
a. “Admission” means admission of candidates in the Bachelor of Technology program at PDPU;
b. “JEE (Main)” means „Joint Entrance Examination‟ conducted by the JEE Apex Board (JAB) New Delhi or any other competent authority for the purpose of admissions to the four year
professional courses (Undergraduate Engineering Programs); c. “ACPC” means „The Admission Committee for Professional Courses‟ constituted by Education
Department, Government of Gujarat for regulation of Admission, or such other authorized
bodies/agencies. d. “University” means Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gandhinagar. e. “NRI” means person from any of the following categories:
i. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders; ii. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) card holders
iii. Certificates of Non Resident Indian issued by the Indian Embassy/Indian Consulate of the
Country where the Non Resident Indian is residing; iv. Passport of an applicant indicating his status as 'Non Resident Indian'. v. Persons who have studied outside India and have passed either 10th or 12th standard (or must
be appearing for in 2020) or equivalent from any system of education subject to the stipulated
below.
vi. Either of the parent of the applicant residing abroad and submits documentary proof that he
is a Non Resident Indian (e.g. NRI bank account in India). The NRI status should be valid
until August 1st, 2020.
f. “Qualifying Examination” i. For All India & NRI Sponsored Candidates:
Means the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination, (Standard XII, 10+2 Science
stream pattern) of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary
Education, including Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for
Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
OR
Intermediate Science or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized
Board/University
OR
Final Examination of the Two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National
Defence Academy
OR
Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India recognized by the Association
of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system, science stream
OR
H.S.C Vocational Examination
OR
Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with
a minimum of five subjects.
OR
Three or four-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

ii. For NRI Candidates:
Means Senior Secondary (10 + 2) or equivalent with Science subjects from an academic
Institutions located outside India and as recognized by the Government of India/ Association
of Indian Universities (AIU) , New Delhi
g. “Website” means www.pdpu.ac.in - the official website of the University; h. “Supernumerary Seats” shall have the meaning assigned to as Girls variable Supernumerary
Seats.
2. ADMISSION TO ENGINEERING PROGRAMS
Admission to the First Year of the Bachelor of Technology shall be given as under, namely:
i. Government Seats (50%)
For the purpose of admission on Gujarat Seats, a candidate has to apply at ACPC as per
ACPC norms.
ii. All India Seats (35%) A candidate seeking admission on All India Seats shall apply on-line, on the University website, within the prescribed time limit.
Thirty five percent seats shall be filled by the University from the candidates who have passed
the Qualifying Examination from the schools located in India (including Gujarat State) and
have appeared in JEE (Main) 2020. Merit list for these seats shall be based on marks obtained
in JEE (Main) 2020. iii. NRI seats (15%)
These Seats shall be filled by the University as NRI seats from the candidates who have
passed the Qualifying Examination from the schools located in India (including Gujarat
State) or abroad. Seats shall be filled as per merit.
There will be an online application form for admission on All India seats and
NRI seats.

4. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
a) For admission as All India Seat candidate and/or as NRI Sponsored candidate:
A candidate should have secured a rank in Paper – 1 of JEE (Main) 2020
AND
A candidate should have passed the Qualifying Examination with minimum 45% marks
(40% in case of SC / ST) in aggregate in theory and practical of Physics & Maths (with
Chemistry or Biology or Computer or Vocational Subject) from single board.
b) For admission as NRI Candidate:
i. Candidate must have passed the qualifying examination abroad with minimum
45% marks (40% in case of SC / ST) in aggregate in theory and practical of Physics,
Chemistry, and Mathematics; and also must have passed:
SAT Subject Tests (SAT II) of level-II Physics, Mathematics, & Chemistry
OR
AP tests at A-levels in Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry
OR
Equivalent standard examination of United Kingdom (UK) education system in
Physics, Mathematics, & Chemistry
OR
JEE (Main) 2020.
ii. In case, Letter Grade / Performance Index or Graded Point Average is awarded
instead of percentage marks in qualifying examination, the equivalence
certificate is required from the school authority.
iii. Such candidate will have to produce equivalence certificate of qualifying
examination from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
5. RESERVATION OF SEATS
a) For the purpose of admission, the seats shall be reserved for the candidates of All India Seats
under the following categories: i. Scheduled Caste (SC):15 %
ii. Scheduled Tribe (ST): 7.5% iii. Physically Handicapped (PH): 3%
b) A candidate seeking admission on reserved seat shall be required to produce a Certificate of
Caste from the competent authority in either English or Hindi or Gujarati language. c) No caste certificate shall be valid unless it is duly stamped, signed and issued by the authority
empowered by the State Government, from where the candidate has passed the qualifying
examination. d) If a candidate fails to submit the necessary caste certificate as required within the stipulated
time, his candidature shall be considered for admission under unreserved category as per merit. e) The candidate of reserved category shall be entitled to be considered for admission on open
category seat according to his preference, subject to fulfilment of open category eligibility criteria
and as per merit order of open category merit list. f) The admission of a candidate of a reserved category on a reserved seat shall be valid subject to
the verification of caste certificate issued to him by the authority empowered by the University on
its behalf. In case the candidate fails to submit the caste certificate within the stipulated time or
the caste certificate is found to be invalid on verification, he shall not have the right to claim his
admission on reserved seat and if he has already been granted admission then such admission
stands cancelled.

g) Reserved seats remaining vacant in any category shall be converted to open category seats. h) Three percent of the available seats in each branch shall be reserved, for Physically Handicapped
(PH) candidates who can perform the academic activities in the respective branch of admission.
Such candidates shall have to submit certificate of disability issued and duly signed by the Civil
Surgeon in either English or Hindi or Gujarati language. This is subject to verification of the
disability in person by the medical officer of the University, who will also certify whether the
candidate is capable of pursuing four year study programme at the University.
Explanation - “Physically Handicapped (PH)” means a person suffering from not less than
forty percent of any disability as certified by a competent medical authority. i) The candidate of PH category shall be entitled for admission on the SC / ST category seat
according to his / her preference subject to fulfilment of respective category eligibility criteria and
as per merit order of respective category merit list.
6. SUPERNUMERARY SEATS
The University has taken a unique initiative to promote professional and technical education for girls
with the provision of “Girls Variable Supernumerary Seats (GVSS)” together on All India Seats & NRI
Seats admission. The procedure and policy for the same will be as follows:
a) The GVSS will be created to maintain minimum 10% girls on All India Seats and NRI Seats
together in each branch.
b) If at least 10% girl candidates have already secured admission on merit in a branch, there
shall be no supernumerary seat for that particular branch.
c) In a case wherein if the number of admitted girl candidates in a branch are less than 10% of
All India Seats and NRI Seats together, the remaining number of seats will be created as
supernumerary seats on All India seat in open category for that branch. These seats will be
offered to only girl candidates who applied for All India Seats so as to maintain minimum
10% girl students in that branch. E. g. if 7% of All India Seats and NRI Seats together are
dully filled in by girl students in a particular branch inclusive of all categories, only 3% of All
India Seats for that particular branch will be supernumerary.
d) Such supernumerary seats if remain vacant, shall not be filled with any other category
candidates.
e) Admission to the supernumerary seat shall subject to fulfilment of the eligibility criteria of
open category seats of All India Seats.
7. PREPARATION OF MERIT LIST
a) For the purpose of admission on All India Seats the University will prepare the inter- se merit list
of the candidates who have applied for admission in the manner prescribed by the University,
within the prescribed time limit and who are found eligible (subject to verification) at the time of
counseling for admission under these rules. It shall be prepared on the basis of All India Rank (CRL
Rank) obtained in JEE (Main) 2020 examination. In the same way the merit list will be prepared
for the candidates applying for admission as NRI Sponsored candidates.
b) For the purpose of admission on NRI Seats, the University will prepare the merit list of the
candidates who have applied for admission on NRI Seats at PDPU in the manner prescribed by the
University, within the prescribed time limit and who are found eligible (subject to verification) at
the time of counseling for admission under these rules. The first allotment of NRI Seats will be
made to eligible NRI candidates, and then the remaining seats will be offered to eligible NRI
sponsored candidates.

For NRI Candidates, admission will be granted on the basis of:
i. SAT Subject Tests (formerly SAT II) of Physics, Mathematics, & Chemistry
OR
AP tests at A-levels in Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry
OR
Equivalent standard examination of United Kingdom (UK) education system in
Physics, Mathematics, & Chemistry
OR
JEE- Main 2020
ii. Performance in the 12th standard or equivalent examination.
8. APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION
For the purpose of admission, a candidate shall apply on-line, for the application of his candidature, on
the University website, within the time limit specified by the University. (Please visit the University
website for the online application procedure.)
a) The University shall announce, by advertisement in some leading national newspapers / on
web-site and by such other means, as it may consider necessary, the date of application,
last date for submission of application form, programs offered and such other information
as may be necessary in this regard.
b) For the purpose of application, a candidate shall be required to make an online payment
of Rs.350/-.
c) A candidate shall be required to upload a scan copy of the requisite certificates and
testimonials as specified in the application form.
9. ADMISSION PROCEDURE
The admission procedure shall be in the following manner:
a) The University shall prepare the merit list of the eligible candidates who have applied
for admission under these rules.
b) The candidates will have to check their inter-se merit number through the Login ID &
password provided at the time of application on the University website.
c) The provisional admission shall be offered through online mode as per the schedule.
d) Offer of admission shall be made on the basis of merit, category of the candidate and
availability of the seats.
e) The candidate can freeze the admission for a branch offered to him upon payment of
the fees as prescribed, subsequent to which such candidate will not be eligible for
offer of admission in any other branch.
f) The candidate can accept the branch offered to him upon payment of the fees as
prescribed and can request for admission in a branch of his higher preference on
merit, during subsequent admission round/s if any.
g) In case of rejection or no action for the offered branch, the candidate will not be
eligible also for any further admission round under that category.

h) The provisional admission will be confirmed only after verification of the original
documents, personal and academic credentials of the candidates viz. identity, age,
academic qualifications and reservation category as per the schedule to be
announced on the website.
i) It shall not be obligatory to give admission to a candidate if he fails to secure the admission
online as prescribed.
j) No changes in branch-preference shall be possible after the last date of submission of online
application.
The University reserves rights to hold admission process also through calling the candidates in
merit on the University Campus.
10. FEES
a) A candidate, who gets admission through ACPC, will be required to pay the fees as prescribed
herein.
b) A candidate has to pay the total fee as prescribed herein, at the time of offer of admission through
a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University”, payable at
Ahmedabad. No extension of time shall be granted for paying the fees.
Subsequently, fees are charged semester-wise, at the start of every semester.
Failure to pay the fees shall be considered as non-acceptance of offer of the admission to
B.Tech. Program.

11. HOSTEL & MESS FACILITIES
a) A candidate who has been offered admission and is keen to avail the Hostel and /or
Mess Facilities should report at Hostel Desk / Mess Desk on the campus. Following fees are required to be paid and are likely to be revised from time to time.
Hostel Fees: 85,000/- per academic year (Non-refundable)
Hostel Deposit (Refundable): Rs. 5,000/-
Electricity charges would be levied (calculated) extra on actual consumption basis.

Mess Charges:
i) Rs. 44,000/- per year for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks as per canteen schedule.
This is compulsory for candidates opting for hostel facility of the University.
ii) Rs. 29,000/- per year for breakfast, lunch and snacks for day scholars as per the canteen
schedule. (Monday to Friday)
Note: Hostel and mess fees are subject to upward revision from time to time.
b) The above mentioned Hostel Fees / Mess Charges have to be paid through a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University”, payable at Ahmedabad or by online through NEFT/RTGS.

ii. To have passed every semester examination at the first attempt besides regular attendance,
disciplined and exemplary behaviour and compliance with all other norms, as prescribed by
the University from time to time.
e) Merit cum Means Scholarship (w. e. f. third semester) i. The scheme is applicable to the Students with effect from their third semester.
ii. Total annual income (from all sources) of the student’s family should not exceed Rs. 8.00
Lacs in the previous financial year.
iii. Students seeking such scholarships will have to apply upon declaration of their result of
Sem. 3, in a prescribed form. The merit list will be based on the result of 1st
year and further
the continuation of the scholarship in subsequent 3rd
and 4th
year shall subject to minimum
6.5 CPI at the first attempt in the previous year, besides fulfilment of other norms e.g. regular attendance, disciplined and exemplary behaviour.
iv. The scholarship will be 50% of the total Tuition Fees, and from the 2nd Academic Year.
v. A list of qualifying applicants shall be arranged in the ascending order of their merit. The
Scholarship Committee, keeping in view relative merits, will decide award of scholarships to top SEVEN (7) meritorious students in each branch of B.Tech..
f) Merit cum Means Scholarship (w. e. f. third semester) - For SC & ST category students i. The scheme is applicable to the Students with effect from their third semester.
ii. Total annual income (from all sources) of the student’s family should not exceed Rs. 8.00
Lacs in the previous financial year.
iii. Students seeking such scholarships will have to apply upon declaration of their result of

iv. The scholarship will be 50% of the total Tuition Fees, and from the 2nd Academic Year.
v. A list of qualifying applicants shall be arranged in the ascending order of their merit. The
Scholarship Committee, keeping in view relative merits, will decide award of scholarships
to top TWO (2) meritorious SC & ST students combinely/together in each branch of B.Tech.
NOTE: The candidates admitted on NRI seats or on tuition fee waiver ACPC seats will not be
eligible for availing any kind of scholarships or financial assistance.
13. REQUIREMENT OF DOCUMENTS
a) List of documents to be uploaded at time of On Line application for admission process
on the university website:

v. Copy of passport of NRI Sponsor (Sponsor’s signature needs to be clearly visible);
vi. Notarized affidavit of NRI Sponsor in prescribed format (available separately on PDPU
website.) on Rs. 100/ - non judicial stamp paper. Sign made in affidavit needs matching with
the sign in passport of NRI Sponsor.
Note:
i. If the affidavit is being prepared in foreign country, the sponsor has to follow the
affidavit/notarization of respective country.
ii. If provision of notarization is not available in a particular country, the sponsor has to
get endorsed affidavit from Indian Embassy/Indian Consulate situated in the respective
country.
iii. If affidavit procedure is being carried out in India by NRI Sponsor, then the proof of
the sponsor’s presence in India at the time of affidavit is also to be submitted which
may be in the form of a photocopy of those pages of passport bearing immigration
stamp.

d) The University may retain any original certificate or testimonial of the candidate/s which it
considers necessary until the admission process is completed. The University shall return the
original certificate or testimonial to the candidate after completion of the admission process.
e) The candidate shall have to produce for verification, the original certificates and testimonials of the
documents attached with the application form at the University after securing the admission through
online selection process, within time-limit as may be specified by the University. An
acknowledgement receipt for the same shall be given by the authorized person.
In the event of failure to submit original certificates and testimonials within prescribed time limit,
the provisional admission shall be treated as cancelled without giving any notice and the additional
security deposit along with the fees paid will be forfeited, and only the deposit amount paid as per
the fee structure shall be refunded by 15th
October 2020.
14. INELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
During verification of documents or subsequently at any point of time, if the University finds that any certificate or testimonial or information submitted by any candidate is incorrect or false or irrelevant/non-
compliant to the requirement, the admission of such candidate shall be cancelled and he shall be permanently disqualified for admission at the University.
All the fees paid by such candidates will be forfeited, and only the deposit may be refunded by 15th
October, 2020.
15. CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION AND REFUND OF FEE
a) Cancellation of admission by the candidate or his guardian or authorized representative: b)
i) A candidate desirous to cancel his admission shall have to apply for it through On Line Admission
Portal of the University.
ii) If a candidate applies for cancellation of his admission on or before 14th August, 2020, the fees
paid shall be refunded after deduction of Rs. 1000/- as administrative charges, provided such
vacated seat gets filled up.
The refund will be made on 15th
October 2020 after receiving all required documents from the candidate in this regard.
iii) In case of a candidate who has already secured admission on All India Seats in a branch and later
on secures admission through ACPC in any other branch at this University, the admission given
on All India Seat for such candidate will stand cancelled. Such candidate shall have to apply for

cancellation of his admission through On Line Admission Portal of the University. The fees paid
for All India Seat will be refunded after deducting Rs. 1000/- provided the All India seat vacated
by the candidate gets filled up by another candidate.
iv) In case of a candidate who has already secured admission in a branch at the University through
ACPC, and later on secures admission on All India seat, the candidate has to make the payment
of full fees as prescribed for All India seat admission. Such candidate has to make sure for
cancelling his admission at ACPC immediately; it shall be the responsibility of the candidate to
provide proof of the same to the University; and to process for the fee refund as per the ACPC
rules.
v) If a candidate admitted on NRI seat, gets admission on All India seat, his fees paid up on NRI seat
will be adjusted against the fees of All India, and the balance amount will be refunded on 15th
October, 2020 provided the vacated NRI seat by him/her gets filled up by an another NRI
candidate.
The above referred refund of fees against cancellation of admission is applicable uniformly,
irrespective of the point of time a candidate has got the admission.

16. ADMISSION AGAINST CANCELLATION
The University will announce the admission process schedule to offer admissions on merit and seats
available.
In case of a student once admitted in a particular branch, can then change his admission in any other branch
on merit upon attending subsequent admission round/s as per the schedule/s notified on the website from
time to time. The seat vacated by the candidate will be offered to the next candidate on merit either in the
same admission round or in the subsequent admission rounds.

17. WARNING AGAINST RAGGING
Ragging is completely banned in PDPU. As directed by the UGC also under the instructions of the Supreme
Court, students are prohibited from indulging into any kind of ragging inside and outside the University
campus. The Anti-Ragging Committee of the University is authorized to take very strict actions against the
students indulging into Ragging; including expulsion from the University. The students shall have to submit
an undertaking in the prescribed proforma along with the signature of their parent/guardian to the effect that
they are aware of the severity of the offences related to the Ragging.
18. COMMUNICATIONS
All communications by the University for the Admission Process will be made through the website
www.pdpu.ac.in. Candidates are advised to go through the University’s website on regular basis for
admission updates. The University will not be responsible for non-receipt of any communication, if any
made additionally through email/sms. No individual communication will be entertained.
The aspiring candidates, their parents and well-wishers are advised to check the website of University from
time to time for all the latest information updates on the admission process.
These rules are subject to change due to several reasons. The change(s) in any of these rules including
modalities of admission process shall be announce and made available on the official website of the
University i.e. www.pdpu.ac.in candidate are advised and are responsible for checking and verifying the
latest information on the modalities and specifies of the admission including, but limited to rules, processes
criterion, schedule, fee etc..
19. INTERPRETATION
These rules should be read as a whole, for the purpose of interpretation. In implementation of the provisions
of these rules, if any difficulty or question arises as to the interpretation of any provision, the decision of
the Director General, PDPU shall be final.
The candidates will be bound by the rules and regulations of the University as applicable during their course
of study at the University. Disputes, if any, shall be subject to Ahmedabad jurisdiction only.
