It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing program devised to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills! The ColorCycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013, and uses the most advanced plastic conversion technologies available today to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles. All year long, students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. Please help support our efforts by sending in any used markers you may have around the house- even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included. Drop-off boxes are located around the school for your child to deposit the markers. Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of everyone across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can continue to keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don’t throw out that used marker…Look for the… …and ColorCycle it! Sincerely, The ECO Team Thank you to all the Avondale Alternative students, and Avondale families who helped raise money for OXFAM in their fight to help the United Nations achieve SUSTAINABLE GLOBAL GOAL #6-Proper Sanitation and Clean for all, by 2030. We are thrilled to announce that we surpassed our $1,000 goal, with a whopping $1,220.75! Thank you for being kind, empathetic and responsible global citizens. Your donation will make a difference in the lives of many.

We are continuing to build the site so it is the one stop for all Avondale news and information. Police Reference Checks/Vulnerable Sector Screening Parents and community members who wish to volunteer must, like all TDSB employees, complete a Police Reference Check (which will include a vulnerable sector screening) and be cleared before they can volunteer in any TDSB location or participate in activities with our students. Please see us at the school for assistance and the required application. Once you have submitted your application and a certified cheque made payable to Toronto Police Service and the application is processed you will receive a statement of clearance. The original clearance must be submitted to the Toronto District School Board, Police Reference Check Office. For convenience simply drop it off at the school office and we can forward it for you directly.
