Autumn Term Week 2
A wonderful House Tea!
Jahili lions leap and bound
into Week Two!
The House Tea is here!
Excellence, Team-building
& House Tea; welcome to
week 2!
Science is fun!
The beginning of Year 5 is always an exciting
time as the children embark on a more
specialised time table. This is never more clearly
seen than in Science when the children make
their first visit to the laboratory and very soon
have the opportunity to use the equipment.
It was wonderful this week to see this
excitement first hand. As the pupils learned to
use the Bunsen burners and to explore the
fabulous variety of colours and as they carried
out flame tests on a variety of metal salts.
A deep love of learning evolves from activities
such as this and the ability to go deeper into a
subject these they have before.
NOTICE! Please can Hosn parents label pupil belongings with not only the name of your
child, but also the House. Ideally, a year would also be included. Thank you, I
hope to make the return of lost items quicker!

Hosn House Tea
On Thursday, 10th September, pupils, parents and teachers of Hosn
House came together in celebration of the start of the new academic
year. The community had their first opportunity to come together to
meet, chat and get to know each other. Refreshments and decorations
were kindly supplied by parents, and thank you to everyone who
participated to make the event such a spectacle.
In particular, I would like to thank Hosn House Parents Nevins Sharp
and Christine Beirne for their commitment, time and effort – without
them, the event would not have been the success it was.
One of Hosn’s Year 4 pupils, Isabella Millar from Yangtze class, has demonstrated
musical excellence in a number of ways since the end of the last academic year: Not
only does Isabella play five musical instruments, but she also passed four
examinations to an ‘Excellent’ level or to ‘Distinction’. Her achievements are as
follows: The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)-guitar with
distinction (Grade 1); ABRSM – Violin (Excellent); ABRSM – Piano (Excellent);
Trinity College London - Drums, with distinction (Grade 1).
Well done, Isabella!
Excellence in action!
Teamwork makes the dream work…to be continued!
During House assembly this week, we considered team work to realise the end goal.
We watched an award-winning advert which saw a team of insects succeed in opening
a bottle of coca-cola. Bearing this in mind, we tried an exercise in team-building as a
House.
In mixed age groups, we each made a paper aeroplane and then split the room in half.
The challenge in team building was to watch out for any aeroplane heading for the
floor.
As a House, we needed to make sure that we threw our aeroplane and looked out for
everyone else as well. We didn’t quite succeed, so room for improvement for Hosn’s
team-building skills!
Thank you to everyone who made the House Tea possible. What
a success the first House event of the school year was. The House
Room was resplendent in red and filled with every imaginable
goody! It was truly a wonderful end to the second week of the
term.
Thank you to everyone who made the House Tea possible a
willing team of volunteers were ably coordinated by Rana and
Annie. Rachael O’Halleron

Hi! My name is Solenne and I am in
Fujairah Year 8.
The Fujairah House Tea was a great
opportunity for pupils, teachers and
parents to meet up after a long
summer break as well as allow us to
welcome new families into the best
Prep School House !
The cakes and baked items were all really tasty and the
tea was delicious.
However, the cherry on the cake was fabulous,
fantastic, festive and the friendly feeling that was felt
within Fujairah!
What a great start to the new school year !

Week 3 Autumn Term 2015 What a treat it has been to see so many of you here this afternoon for our annual House teas. The spread of food was staggering but even more importantly it was wonderful to witness the support for each House and the participation of all. It is always so beneficial to put names to faces and to meet the Tutor behind the email address and I know that the Tutors and House Mistresses and Master all thoroughly enjoyed seeing you today. My sincere thanks to all of the parents who have clearly been extremely busy preparing for this afternoon and who have made the event what it is. Have a lovely weekend. This week:
Roald Dahl Day – Sunday (this will not be a dress up day!)
Co-curricular Activities Start – Sunday Looking ahead:
OSRA Eid Chocolates – this has been cancelled due to the National Mourning in memory of those who lost their lives.
EID AL ADHA Holiday – Tuesday to Thursday (TBC) Looking further ahead:
'European Day Of Languages' 2015 – Sunday
Prep Familiarisation Day – Wednesday
Notes and Important Information
Car Park Volunteers – As many of you are aware the car park is very full at pick up time and we
wondered if there were any parents who would be able and willing to help as car park volunteers to assist
guide the traffic and keep it moving. If so please email [email protected]
Access to the School building: From Sunday, 6th September, we would ask that you say goodbye to your
children in the reception area and allow them to make their own way to their Classes or House Rooms.
This is in the interest of the health and safety of all our pupils and your support and understanding with this
matter is appreciated.
Naming uniform and equipment: We are introducing a new process for the all lost property within the
College. This new system will be dependent on everything being clearly named with your child’s name
and House. Please clearly write the first letter of your child’s House on their belongings so that things can
be retuned quickly and efficiently to the correct room each day (more details to follow.)
Image Consent: If you do not want an image of your child to appear in any College publication whether
in-House or beyond please can you ensure that you have signed the image consent form and returned it to
