Autonomous driving and gesture control tech
showcased at CES
Driving is an activity to be enjoyed but at times it becomes a tiresome job for the driver.
Present day technology is now going to change this tedious task of driving for the motorists
into a fun game and an effortless job. At the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, 2015
Mercedes-Benz came up with this news. The Consumer Electronics Show held recently
served as the platform for the automobile manufacturers to express their views regarding
their future planning about the ease of controlling and driving cars, in particular for the car
owners.
Gesture controlled driving
Controlling a car with gestures is gradually taking over the conventional controlling of a car,
these gestures being the smartest means of operating the built-in systems in a car. In
addition, improved and faster access to the internet is going to allow tech fans to drive their
cars easily offering them sufficient time to do job-related chores and interact more with
their near and dear ones.
It’s the new era for vehicles
According to Dr. Dieter Zetche, chairman of Mercedes-Benz, a vehicle is transforming into a
moveable living zone for its user rather than remaining as a conventional mode of transport.

Drivers have started using computer-controlled vehicles and the leading international car
makers are incorporating smart features like adaptive cruise and active steering control in
order to allow the driver to use a more convenient means of controlling the car. The ‘semi-
autonomous’ mode is helping a driver further.
Hands free car driving a reality
Audi ran an A7 Sportsback car from Silicon Valley to the city of Las Vegas to cover a
distance of 880 Kilometers as it aimed to show its shift towards hands-free car driving. The
technology was based on the interaction of the A7 with the active servers for handing out
data from the car in order to improve its navigation system and to feed real-time
information into it regarding traffic along the car’s route.
While Audi was demonstrating these activities with its A7, media persons were riding the
car. However, it was not these persons, but the A7, which controlled its own movement
shifting to lanes, accelerating, overtaking, and pressing the brakes on its journey from
Silicon Valley to Las Vegas. ‘Piloted driving’ is the term used by Audi to name this tech-driven
motion.
It’s about enriching the driver’s experience
According to Audi, these new changes in the driving experience are being introduced only to
enrich a driver’s on-road experience and not to deprive the driver entirely from enjoying his
on-road movements. Mercedes-Benz concept and research works are more advanced than
those of Audi as Benz has already finished working on the look of the car that is going to
dominate the roads by the year 2030. By this time, population worldwide will be found living
primarily in towns.
