26th ANNUAL SPORTS DAY
“The principle is competing against yourself. It’s about self-improvement, about being
better than you were the day before.” – Steve Young
SVKM’s Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering conducted its 26th Annual Sports Day
on the 18th of January, 2020, at the Bhailal Patel Ground, in Vile Parle (West). This year was
a special year, as the college was also celebrating 25 years of providing quality engineering
education, and as its motto goes, ‘Creating Wingineers’. The inauguration ceremony was
conducted by Principal Sir, Dr. Hari Vasudevan, along with Dr. A.C. Daptardar (Vice Principal
- Admin.), Dr. Manali Godse (Vice Principal – Acad.) and Dr. Narendra Shekokar (Chairperson
- Sports Committee). Everyone offered prayers to God with a small Pooja, which was
followed by some words of wisdom by Principal Sir. Following this, all the student chapters
of the college showcased themselves in the march-past, followed by a beautiful rendition of
the National Anthem by a first year student and finally, by the torch-bearer’s ceremony.
Sport is an integral part of human life. It brings out the best in people, and prepares them to
handle all the situations that life can throw at them. This year, the following events were
conducted for all the athletes from the college:

The cold, windy weather was not an obstacle for the participants, who put their best foot
forward in these events. While the 200 Mtrs. Race (Male category) saw the maximum turnout
of contestants, the audience witnessed a fierce competition in the other events too. The events
for the teaching and non-teaching staff attracted all the students, who enthusiastically cheered
for their respective faculties. As is the tradition, the final events of the Annual Sports Day
were the Interdepartmental 4x100 Mtrs. Relay and Tug of War. These events were the perfect
example to showcase how sports can turn winning and losing into an experience, rather than
the main goal. There was also a positive interaction between the students and the faculty
members, in the form of a box-cricket match played between them, besides the running track.
This year, Mr. Jay Bista was the Chief Guest for the Annual Sports Day. He is a proficient
cricketer, and has represented Mumbai, right from his school days. He made his debut in the
Ranji trophy in the 2015-16 season, and was a part of the winning squad that year. He has
played in the First-class and List-A categories of tournaments, and is a batting all-rounder.
He has fought all the odds to stand where he is today and, in fact, has been through the entire
grind of Mumbai cricket, right from the under-14’s to the under-23’s, and was also a student
of Shardasharam Vidyamandir, the same school where The Master Blaster - Sachin
Tendulkar - studied.
The Vice Principal (Admin.) Dr. A.C. Daptardar began the closing ceremony with a speech,
followed by some inspirational words by the Chief Guest. The prize distribution ceremony
followed, and this memorable day was then concluded on a positive note, with a vote of
thanks. The guidance offered by Principal Sir – Dr. Hari Vasudevan,
Vice Principals – Dr. A.C. Daptardar and Dr. Manali Godse, the Chairperson of the Sports
Committee – Dr. Narendra Shekokar, and the efforts from the teacher’s sports committee and
student’s sports committee, all played a vital role in making this event a grand success.

Date: 25th February 2020
It was the day of one of the biggest IDPT competitions. The event kicked off with our
principal, Dr. Hari Vasudevan, lighting the lamp of knowledge and delivering an inspirational
speech. This was followed by the walk-in of the members of the Trinity’20 core and sub-core
committees. The Chairperson of Trinity, Parth Pawar, and Co-chairperson of Trinity, Gaurav
Mehta, spoke their hearts out to the audience about the joy of planning the events.
After a few ice-breaking activities and a beautiful musical performance by the members of
DJS Beats, the students were raring to go, and thus, the FMD competition began. In this
competition, students from FE and SE worked together for their respective departments to do
the best job of representing their respective departments. They were required to make a
banner representing the various applications of their stream (known as flex), a 3-D working
model of a character representing their department (a mascot), and a duet dance performance.
Each department’s creations were assessed by an external judge who was affluent in that
field. The flexes were judged by Ms. Karishma Srivastava, the mascots by Mr. Pratik
Upadhyay, and the dances by Mr. Vinayak Ghoshal.
While the results were being tallied, the departments roasted each other by sending a
contestant from each of their departments, who targeted 3 other departments each. It was a
truly fun game, and everybody enjoyed the competition.
For mascot, the winners were Mechanical, followed by IT and Chemical. The gold for flex
went to Chemical, while Bio-Prod and Electrical shared silver and IT took bronze. Bio-Prod
won dance, leaving EXTC in second place and Computers in third. After what proved to be a
fiery and competitive day, filled with chanting and cheering, all the students came together
and unwound as they jived to the beats of the DJ.

were invited to be the honourable judges for this event.
On day 1, the panellists were Harsh Shah, Ankush Gupta, Riddhi Upadhyay, Parth Dahale,

overwhelming talent. There were poems, stand-up comedies, solo as well as band musical

displayed by the participants. The judges took up the stage as well to give a preview of their
expertise. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience and everyone was left with even greater
enthusiasm to return to watch the next round of performances the consequent day.
Day 2 of the Talent hunt was just as fun-filled and had another elaborate panel of
overachievers in the performing arts, Poulami ganguly, Prayag Joshi, Priyanshi Gandhi,
Bhavesh Indulkar, Monil Parekh and Avi Tripathi.
The competition got tougher with even more applicants pouring in to perform at DJGT. There
were actors, rappers, shayars, bands, instrumental bands as well as classical dancers, all of
which amazed the judges and audiences alike. The audiences showed up in greater numbers
following the success of day 1. The judges again, on public demand, performed for the
audiences and had everyone grooving to Garba beats. The audience was left in awe of all the
talent they witnessed and wondering who would make it to the finals.
The day ended with a post-event congratulation of the entire Trinity committee by one of the

IDPT JUST A MINUTE (JAM)
Venue: DH1
Date: 7th March, 2020.
Trinity 2020 hosted their annual JAM (abbreviation for Just A Minute) this year with
tremendous pomp and splendour. The competition begins with a prompt given on the spot by
the JAM Master based on which the participants must speak for 60 seconds. The participant
that jams first (i.e. banging the table, in this case) gets to speak first. The participant must
speak in perfect Queen's English, with no room for grammatical errors, hesitation, stuttering
and repetition. If a participant does any of the above, the remaining may interrupt him by
jamming, state their reason, and if the JAM Master deems it valid, continue where the
previous participant left off.
To make this competition more interesting, the JAM Master may introduce something known
as a JAM Master’s Delight, whenever he pleases. This can include anything and everything
under the globe, from cheesy pick-up lines to mimicking a known personality. The Delight
may be performed before, after or in between prompts, depending on the rules decided by the
JAM Master.
Some of the prompts included narrating a story in reverse alphabetical order or without using
four letter words, and many others which challenged the participants to improvise to the best
of their ability.
The winner was Dwayne Gonsalves from EXTC, with Mokshit Mehta from Computers
coming in second, and the third place being bagged by Vedant Shah from the Mechanical
Department.

TRADITIONAL DAY & ROSE DAY
Date: 6th March, 2020
Venue: Lobby, DJSCE
SVKM’s Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering had organized a Traditional and Rose
day for its students on 6 March, 2020. The event saw our students dressed up in their
traditional attires. Standing true to our Indian values of “Unity in diversity” the entire college
was painted in vibrant colours. Sarees, kurtas, veshtis, punjabi suits, and more were adorned
by our proud students.
The committee had organized a series of fun games for students in occasion of rose day.
Needless to say, a bunch of roses were given out, in the spirit of friendship and love. Held in
the lobby, the events saw large scale participation. This was followed by a large gathering of
enthusiastic students outside the canteen clicking photos.
The rose signified many things, a symbol of appreciation, a token of love, a request for
friendship and much more. The overall atmosphere that day was one of enjoyment,
comradeship and love, and all of the students looked truly stunning in their attire. The event
was a roaring success, and some departments followed it up by unveiling their department
spoof videos.
