The news will be a relief to Holden fans, especially after speculation TeamVodafone could be poached by a rival manufacturer. Nissan was the first manufacturer to confirm joining Holden and Ford in the V8s, with American brand Chrysler also expected to join. Whincup to race in Clipsal V8 SUPERCARS champion Jamie Whincup says he will compete in this weekend’s season-opening Clipsal 500 meeting despite mourning the death of his father. Whincup’s father David died on Sunday after a short battle with lymphoma cancer. ‘‘Last week was without a doubt the toughest week of my life,’’ Whincup said. ‘‘Dad rode the motorsport wave with me every step of the way, which I plan to still be the case right into the future.’’ Kenseth wins Daytona 500 MATT Kenseth capped a crazy 36 hours for NASCAR by winning the first postponed Daytona 500 in 55 editions of the marquee event in Florida. Kenseth held off Dale Earnhardt Jr and Roush Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle over a two-lap finish. Australian former V8 Supercar driver Marcos Ambrose ran as high as second during the first half of the 200-lap race but finished 13th after being involved in a late incident. Ricciardo must prove he can fill Webber’s shoes DANIEL Ricciardo has been told he needs to prove he has a wow factor if he is to succeed Mark Webber at Red Bull. Ricciardo will begin his first full Formula One season with Toro Rosso at next month’s season-opening Aust- ralian Grand Prix. He and French rookie Jean- Eric Vergne, 21, have been in- stalled in Toro Rosso’s two cars after Swiss driver Sebas- tien Buemi and Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari were dumped. Red Bull owner Die- trich Mateschitz said his main aim was to elevate one of the Torro Rosso drivers to the Red Bull team. ‘‘Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne are highly talented and have great poten- tial, but the question will only arise if, for example, Webber stops at the end of 2012,’’ Mateschitz said. Webber plans to continue in 2013 but, in any case, Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost says Ricciardo or Vergne are like- ly to need more than this season to show they are suit- able for Red Bull. After being beaten in a non- elimination round early, a steely-eyed Parkinson came out firing.
